I want to know what edition of Windows XP or Vista you use? XP Home Edition, Media Center, what?

I bought Windows XP Home Edition with my new gaming system from Avadirect.com. I want to know how many other people are using the same OS as me. Oddball much? Heh.

How you found one Windows OS to be better than another?

Oh yeah? Cool. Does it currently have any real advantage over using an XP 32-bit OS though?

Well because its 64Bit i can use more than 3GB's RAM.

Also it just looks nicer.

XP is a little faster but its nothing massive.

I have xp home on my 160 gig drive and 32 bit Vista home premium on my 250 gig drive. Vista crashed after a power outage and I had to reformat both drives.:P I didn't back up stuff, but I still like Vista and use that drive almost 99% of the time.roulettethedog

Yeah, I have 4gigs coming in my new rig, but I will still have 32-bit. I heard 32-bit can use up to 3gigs or something. I wonder if that extra gig I have will be resourceful to other parts of my PC though. Hmm. I can always upgrade if necessary later on though...

I have 2GB's with Vista and it runs very smoothly....although apparently if you have 4GB's it makes a bit of a difference.

It's great, havn't had any problems with it after sp1. I only have 2gb of RAM and it runs fine, can't really notice much of a difference in performance since i was running XP.

Windows Vista 32-bit Business

It has all the features that Home Premium has, but some added components that I like for non-gaming App's like the MS Office Suite, for example, yet still has DirectX 10 for my gaming needs.

Maybe it's not a crime in his country?

Besides IMO there is nothing morally wrong in pirating windows.Microsoft deserves it.

Software has no material cost thus it's not stealing.

Spybot_9

That's laughable. Software has no material cost? You honestly believe that? What about the man hours involved, the toll free numbers, the packaging materials, the advertisement costs, the umpteen various department and infrastructure upkeep and costs, etc. the list goes on. I guess because you can't really touch Windows with your hand, it should be free. I mean honestly just because they spent a bunch of money and time on it, doesn't mean they should be compensated one dime.

Your logic needs repairing.

I got XP pro (32bit AND 64bit.. came with two cds and two CD keys) for 30 bucks...

Next semester my school will sell Vista Pro with 32bit and 64bit CD with two different CD keys for 30 bucks..

The good thing about being a college student is REAAAAALLY cheap software.

or like mine, most of my software is free(well not free, included with tuition) Only products that aren't free are adobe products, but even those are down to $100-200. But like office 2007, and vista. They just sent me a big pack of software in the mail, when I enrolled.

Embrace your Vista, don't be ashamed of it and dismiss it as only being used because of your school! What exactly is wrong with Vista other than it's gazillion bugs,occasional lockup's and crashes?

pseudonymph24

32-bit XP => 32-bit Vista = easy. No problems.

32-bit XP/Vista => 64-bit XP/Vista = not recommended. Driver/program incompatibility issues.

If you choose to do the latter, you should dual boot with both OS's for optimum compatibility. If not, a full reformat is your best bet.

RAM, currently. As has been stated before, 32-bit OS's only have 4GB of addressable memory allocation. This includes any additional RAM to your system RAM including VRAM. To utilize more than 4GB of total memory, you have to use a 64-bit OS. Plus, 64-bit is the future of computing. Maybe not now, but more sooner than later (as it pertains to the technology timeline), 32-bit will be obsolete.

I got vista home premimum. It looks pretty, and daily operations are not bad. But the biggest drawback is that Vista doesn't run KOTOR or KOTOR II period. I have tried for a year using every method I can think of, but KOTOR still doesn't run.

I got XP home on my main computer, XP home on my athlon file server and Vista on my laptop. Vista may be more of a hog but it looks really nice in comparison and it runs really smoothly on my laptop with 2 gigs and a dual core but it runs quite badly on my friends 1gb single core laptop so i think 2 gigs is important.

I personaly use a pirated version of XP Profesional. It is flawless and has been stripped down of all unessesary componets. The final size is just under 200MB. As for Vista... I see no reason to even think about installing it. It brings nothing to the table. It is simply a theme upgrade that also embraces DRM. Not to mention that it also uses conciderably more memory than XP. XP is hopefully the last version of windows I will have to use. Maybe in the next few years more hardware manufatures will fully open up their dirvers (*cough* ATI, *cough* Nvidia). Then possibly more game developers will fully support *NIX systems (like UT3 plans too) or at least support OpenGL 2.0 (like WoW). Then Windows would be completely useless IMO. Its only a matter of time before everything embraces open source.
