Im so sick of shooting russians...

Why are so many games these days that involve modern conflict always using Russia as the bad guy? Im not russain or anything but god DAMN. Can we please have a new enemy? Everytime there some stupid cinematic and all the characters act suprised like WHAT?? RUSSIA?? NO WAY MANG.

Yeah, I feel bad for Russia... Russians are awesome. I've been playing mostly as them in RO2.

I'm Indian and I'd love if some AAA game company would make a game that was a battle against India or something that involves us. The country everyone ignores militarily wise.

I'm sick of shooters in general. RO2 is the only one I'm gonna play for a while. The BF3 beta didn't impress me, I've been sick of CoD since MW2, Metal of Honor was boring and even the new Counter Strike doesn't look all that good to me. Oh well, I need to spend more time playing the games I already have anyway.

Yeh same here. I for a while wouldn't play anything aside of sci-fps's *cough Halo, because I was sick of shooting Russians! It's always Russians , ****! I was hoping that there would be Taliban in BF3 multiplayer but I guess not.

If you think about it....BF2142 had russia as one of the factions too. Though the commerical success of CoD4 probably kicked it into high gear

The reason Russia is the typical nemesis is because it's one of the few countries that can be a believable and credible enemy to the United States. Who else could we go against?

South America? Nope

Africa? Rofl

Europe or Australia? Doesn't make sense as they're staunch allies of the US

Middle East? Maybe some sort of unified single Middle Eastern force and even that's tenuous at best.

The only two countries in the world that would remotely make a believable nemesis are Russia or China. In reality, neither of those countries could fight a conventional war against the US. Nuclear war is irrelvant...as everyone (the whole planet) loses then.

I'd rather reverse the role.. Where you get to play a soviet special ops infiltrating the US or some other "good guys" western country. Causing havoc, blowing up nuclear power plants, kidnapping dignitaries, destroying air force bases and such. Good clean fun. Something like "Call of Mother Russia: Red Mist"? Very dramatic...derp

This. Also most of the major FPS franchises are made by US companies or at least made by companies owned by US companies. Naturally they want to be successful in their home market so naturally their protagonist will be from the US. The traditional US enemies are Russians because of the cold war. However Russia is still a major rival of the US with its huge energy resources.

Nowadays with China's inevitable ascension to the most powerful nation in the world, you will see more games where Chinese (or North Korean as part of some Chinese empire) are the enemy.

These perspectives come from the way news is covered first of all, that filters down into the psyche of games developers.

If you have ArmA 2, go in the editor and play as a Russian. Then you can shoot Americans.

Can't you do that in ARMA 2? At least, you can create such missions where you play the other side.

Oh yeah. Personally, I rather kill extraterrestial invaders myself.

How about a conflict between to regional powers instead for once? And when a great Power comes in to sort it out (with superior equipment) you have to change your game plan.

Think something like Turkey vs. Iran with Russia intervening. Or 2 African nations going at it untill the US or the UN step in. As it will play different as you won't have access tyo all the "cool" gadgits.

I agree with this fella.

Modern warfare games will be like WWII games last gen. They make so many of them (because that's where the success is right now) that the genre will be ravaged of any potential for originality. Granted, it won't be as bad as WWII games, where a few modern combat games will still come out, but I can see an end to the massive dominance the FPS market currently has.

TC, the "US vs. Russia modern combat" game is soon to be a thing of the past, imo.

I say, swap Russians for Terrorists. Would be easier on the art team too, since the terrorists would be in pin stripe suits and Rolex watches. Great reference material would be your typical American CEO, or wall street banker.
