Can you really say you're surprised? You don't buy the absolute best, most expensive GPU on the market, and expect it to keep its value.

horgen123

But you don't expect to get bitten in the ass so quickly by the company that sold it.

You don't?  I do.

Actually very few companies do this kind of thing 3 months after a flagship release.  Intel, AMD, Samsung, whatever it is, always have a grace period of at least an year before a new flaghsip is released.  No company releases a product 3 months later at half the price, that is just a big F U to the enthusiasts.

The moment I buy a new graphic card is the moment I stop giving crap about prices and new cards. The 8800GTS(G92) had nearly 8800 ultra performance for less than half the price, this is nothing new.

http://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-700-series-launching-midmay-geforce-gtx-780-gk110-core-gtx-770-gtx-760-ti-gk104/

The most interesting part about the report is that we have already been hearing about the GeForce GTX Titan LE for the past few months. The card which is a consumer version of the already released Tesla K20C would not be another TItan GPU but rather the next flagship GeForce GTX 780 graphics card featuring the same specifications. The GeForce GTX 780 would be powered by the GK110 core boasting 2496 Cuda cores and a 5 GB GDDR5 VRAM which was indicated in a leaked picture of the board itself.
The leak could now be considered true since it was mentioned that Titan LE was just an internal codename of the card, retail name would be something else and with a different cooling scheme compared to the Titan. It was speculated that the Titan LE, now known as the GTX 780 would be priced around the $499 $599 mark.FaustArp

I can honestly say that I'm not very happy with nVidia right now.

I will very seriously consider AMD in 2014; at least they don't seem obsessed with f*cking over their most loyal customers.

AMD does the same things that Nvidia does simply to compete. You're just jaded because you overpaid. I said all along that card was no where near worth that much money and that I would. Hell, I didn't buy the 600 series, because I knew what was going to happen a few months later. I think the majority of us here knew what was going to happen the moment the 600 series released. You just have to obtain some patience in the GPU world, that's what I've learned.

I think most of us probably saw something like this coming.  Titan doesn't exactly slaughter the 7970ghz edition across the board.  With that being said, you had to know that Nvidia's high-end GTX 700 card would perform in the same ballpark for a lot less money.

obviously 2013, or even q1 2014.  If people knew the 700 series would release so soon after the titan, would anyone have really bought the titan?  The way I see this is a money grab.  Add this to another shady move by nvidia on a long list over the years.  But you will defend nvidia to the grave.

Well I'm not really "waiting anything out," I am gonna keep my Titans until Maxwell regardless.

Just will be perturbed if nVidia releases a Titan-equivalent card for half the price like 2 months later.

I don't really see this point of view, and I'll tell you why...the GTX 690 as a point of comparison.  That was a $1000 card, right?  Those who spent big bucks on that card had the best dual-GPU single card for quite a long time before the Radeon 7990 came out.  In fact, nVidia still has not trumped it with another dual-GPU single card to date.

Compare that to one-upping the Titan 2 months later with a similar card for half price.  There is simply no comparison to be made.  I don't really see how one could "expect" that nVidia would do that in such a time frame.  That it would happen was inevitable, sure.  But that fast and to that degree?

I'm gonna completely agree with blazn here, that if these rumors are true, then Titan was a money grab.

Perhaps Titan was a money grab.  Maybe Titan will still be 5-8% faster than a GTX 780, stock vs stock.  If the 780 is $600, that wouldn't be that far out of line with what we've seen in some prior generations.  Either way, dual-GPU cards have always been a whole different animal.  People expect to pay big bucks and get flakier driver and support and somewhat less consistent performance.  That's why I don't think the GTX 690/7990 should really be part of the discussion.

Not a bitch move.  A greedy move by a company that knows the market.  Besides, GTX 780 will likely be at least a little bit slower than Titan.

its not only greedy, its unethical and betrayal of trust.  Karma is a bitch, and all of these companies that betray customer's trust always get bit in the ass at some point.  Things always come back full circle.

As an example, in Canada we have a duopoly for ISP/telecom/tv by Rogers and Bell.  For years they were gouging the consumers, extra billing, hidden fees, etc etc and just recently 2 years ago tried to put a bandwidth cap of 40gb a month for internet.  I believe that was the straw that broke the camels back.  Now small isps are growing quickly.  Before their market share was around 5%, now it has nearly doubled to 10%.  The big telco's are getting scared and seriously trying to compete now, but still customers are willing to switch over to the smaller ISPS even though the plans are better than the small ISPS.  Why is that?  They lost their customers trust and now are facing an uphill battle to regain that.

Anyways back on topic, rumors are rumors so I won't blame this on nvidia until we get closer to the supposed release date.

I agree, it was pretty well known that AMD was not planning to release the 8000 series this year. I figured this titan that nvidia released was to cure the appetite of the real enthusiasts who do not want to wait this extra time frame for a new gfx series to come out. That is why there was a premium price. This is what I thought and many others did. But it seems as if Nvidia is throwing a curve ball on us lol.

So I can see why a Titan owner could be upset. I agree with other posters though, it is kinda your fault if you were worried about the price while purchasing. Someone buying a Titan should have the frame of mind that "this is the most powerful card out on the market and I do not mind paying a premium for that at all!". If that is your mind frame than rest assured you will still have the most powerful card for quite sometime. Well after the 780...

Sorry if I don't feel for the people who blew $1000 or more on a completely unneccesary piece of hardware..

I agree, it was pretty well known that AMD was not planning to release the 8000 series this year.

Jermone123

I hope this isn't the case (with nvidia being aggressive, they really need to get them out by Fall/Winter). I'm going to be made if AMD waits almost two years just for a refresh lineup (espically if its released months before Maxwell).

AMD will be releasing something before the end of the year.

I'm happy too :P I seriously need more VRAM for rendering and the Titan has enough VRAM but is insanely priced, so the Titan LE should be cheap enough for my needs.

This is excellent. I was considering gtx 650ti Boost SLI, but waiting a while longer and getting that instead seems more wise and probably not "that" far of from budget.

If you're gaming higher than 1080p or 1080p with 120-144hz, then it's not unnecessary...

whats funny is that I predicted this would happen nearly two weeks ago.  I claimed the 780 would be half the price of a titan and surpass it by around 10%.  I still stand by this.  AMD wasn't expected to release their new cards till 2014 Q1, so this move by nvidia MIGHT force AMD to move their schedule up, but I doubt it.

They probably did a similar thing to what Google did with their Chromebook Pixel, where they threw the craziest stuff into it, just to show they can do it, except Google encouraged people not to buy it since it wasn't truly made to actually be bought.

why spend 1000$ on a videocard for what? Do you have a successful you tube channel and want to record with super high fps? TB bought two of them titans 2000$ and his youtube channel paid for it. Why would an average joe waste so much money and then bitch about it two months later.....stupid.

Do you seriously consider upgrading from SLI 680s so soon? Is there even a game that took full advantage of your GPUs, even at 2560x1440?

Haha, I put the thought in your head.  :P  Lol.

At 1440p you can put it to use I'd think.  I ordered a 1600p monitor yesterday, very curious to see how much more HP is required for these higher resolutions.

Speaking of which, did you notice a big jump in graphics quality when you went higher-res?
