Yeah I might still buy it however.
Same, I just had false expectations for the game.
Looks to be nothing but an awesome creature creator with lame gameplay fill that lets you go "deeeeeeeeeeeeerrrp look at the creature I made go! I made it! Its mine! This is so cool! So what if its boring as hell! I'm part of it!". Bein' mean of course :)flclempire
you mean, like the sims???
Let's go burn down the observatory so this will never happen again!biggest_loser
Lol!!! I love that quote.
I only play games that score 8.5-9.0s on GS. So I'll have to pass on Spore. 8.0 is a horrible score.smokeydabear076
That's odd. Why would you pass on the 9.1 - 10.0 games?

I think we can all agree that pretty much everybody had higher expectations for Spore, than being another sims game.

Oh yeah. I forgot about those games.:? I play those games too.[QUOTE="thusaha"]It deserves better that that.BlackBart2
So you've played it?
Not only has this man played and finished the game, he also signed my copy.
Thank you Kelly Clarkson!! I mean.....Thusaha!
It's a damn well dissapointing score for such an anticipated game.vlin1108
It is an 8.0... which means GREAT. Unlike other reviews so far at least they are being honest about the flaws. For people that prefer a simpler SIM then it is probably a 9.something. Those that want broad challenges and manupulation on every level.... it is probably an 8.0. Either way that ends up being a game worth buying.

Honest about the flaws?
Can you really say that these critics are deliberately lying about their opinions sometimes? Can you really tell me that?

Many believe that these critics are not reporting their opinions as much as they are adhering to the agenda of their corporate parent. It's not really a matter of the reviewers not being true to themselves, it's more a matter of the reviewers being little more than an additional wing of the marketing campaign.
I don't necessarily hold the above opinion, I'm just saying...

surely this is sarcasm
all you kids are crazy, have fun analyzing Gamespot's poor reviews, I'll be somewhere else enjoying Spore.
You caught him. *thumbs up*[QUOTE="weirjf"][QUOTE="vlin1108"]It's a damn well dissapointing score for such an anticipated game.biggest_loser

Can you really say that they AREN'T? Can you really tell me that with 100% assurance? Follow-up question if you answer "yes" - are you really that naive or just new to game reviews?
Then take into account that reviews are indeed OPINION. Opinions are individual and while other reviews have given a 90+ but acknowledge the flaws, this review hit the final score with the overly simplistic gameplay (that everyone mentions) which dropped it below a 90. It made an 80 because in the bigger scheme of things it is still a great game and therefore to me makes it more honest. Either the other reviewers don't hold any weight in those flaws or in their OPINION those flaws don't matter where it may be a killer for other people and their OPINION of the game. Chances are it will matter more to the average gamer than a 90 score lets on.

To what benefit would a journalist - who have their own written code of ethics that they are meant to abide by in the industry - take from lying about a video game?
Naturally you are going to say bribery, money. I just find it hard to believe that every 'professional' critic who reviewed Oblivion or whatever was given a sack with a dollar sign on it.
I think YOU should take into account opinions and the fact that 'flaws' can exist but not hinder the experience for some as much as others.
No suprise.. Went too huge in scope, which lead to dumbing down of everything to fit intot he alloted time and budget.sSubZerOoI think that was their goal in the first place. To create a more "casual" game.
8 became a mediocre score when GS stopped using the bottom half of their reviewing scale and a 5 really means a 1 in gamer terms .... most games these days seem to make it into the 7-8 range so it feels pretty underwhelming when a game thats been in the making for 5 years gets a "mediocre" score. Maybe if GS went back to using the full scale again it might be worth it but as it stands it basically gives games grades like in school where anything below a 60% is failing anyway .... so why even have 1-50% ..... just start at 60 and go up.... thats what they do.
So basically i look at their review system as a 1-5 scale. 5 being terrible and 10 being great. Most games are 7-8 so 3-4 in laymans terms.

You are missing out on alot of good games then, the GS score is only 1 person's opinion!
meh, you cant take GS's numbers for crap tbh.
If you read the review, you will see they thought it was great. They just took issue with the lack of depth in a few things (i.e. you can only have 3 types of units, the microbe or whatever stage is pointless, etc)

ColdfireTrilogy
Scores are definitely not an accurate measure of the quality of a game. You see bad games getting 8+, and that makes you think that a score of 8 is mediocre. The thing is that there are also plenty of great games that scored 6-7, you just don't know about them, because you just assume that anything below 8 sucks.
