When reading the reviews of WoW, I noticed that Wow ranked 9 of over 7000 pc games overall.

I began to scratch my head and began to wonder... hmmmm    what could be the other eight that might have outdone WoW?

Just looking for some ideas as to what the games might be....

My vote is for WoW as the best PC game of all time....   I believe it should be number one.

Your question is hard to answer, you know. Because there is different kinds of PC games (RPG, RTS, FPS,...). If you prefer RPG games, it is almost sure that your choice will be WoW or something like that. I think there is no PC games of all time, however, for a person, there is one game that he likes the most. One of my favorite games is the CoD series. But I won't say that's the best game because I didn't play all the game.

Are you chinese? Because the biggest support is in china and the US.  The mass amount of world players still use single player.
As for WoW if your idea of great gaming is slashing slashing and slashing for hours on end to upgrade your character then your an idiot.
Best game of all time is always subjective, and there are so many to choose from.

QFT. Best pc game for me would be Half-life 2.

Best FPS would be System Shock 2 followed by Half Life.

Best RPG would be Planescape: Torment, followed by Ultima VII: The Black Gate.

Any Elder Scrolls game, but HL2 that I just got easily ranks up there on the list... There probibly are other games that are better than the ES games in general. But then when you add mods to them, they become invincable forces of gameing pleasure...

It would have to be a space game where you could explore a ton of planets. You would have to be able to go anywhere you wanted and do alot of different things in SP or MP. There would have to be alot of customization. It would have to blend the RPG, RTS, TBS and FPS genre into one unforgettable journey to conquer, chart and explore without being cheesy futuristic. It would have to change the way gaming is thought of right now. A good way to do that would allow players to totally shape a galaxy system. Also allowing players to build their own team bases on their own planets that other people could interact with if allowed. Players could build their unqiue clans, systems, and bases offline and bring them online. They would be like seperate servers where other players could go that would be like portals or add-ons to the core servers. No MMO fees. Just expansion for those who want to pay for bigger expansions or uploadmore compact resources. Clans could allow players in as merchants and explorers just looking to sight see. If they wanted to take a risk they could play for galactic domination. The galaxy would have to be a harsh place not for the whiny gamer type. You would need to be able to walk around a ship in FPS mode and fight in alien worlds in FPS, and board ships in takeovers. You would have to be able to go online and take up your standard FPS action. Offline or online you would need to be able to be able to build, explore, upgrade and trade and play how you wanted. It would need to demolish typical MMO features such as balance, grinding and tedium. Yep. there you have it. The best game has never been made.

What is this guys problem?  What kind of loser has to call someone an 'idiot' simply because he happens to get a lot of enjoyment out of a game and wants to talk about it?

I personally would also put WOW in the number one slot.  I would probobly put all Blizzard games pretty far up the list.  When I think of my favorite games I also think in terms of franchises, so I might say all the warcrafts, or half-lifes.

1.Doom - Look what it did for the genre, it brought about online deathmatching, strong single player (for its time and i still enjoy it today too) revolutionary game engine as well.

It seems as if doom isn't even respected anymore after Doom 3 came out and was publicly panned for being boring and a waste of a decent graphics engine. Just because Doom 3 'sucked' doesnt make doom any less of the revolutionary title that it is. It doesn't change the fact that it was one of the earliest FPS games ever made, not the first, but quite clearly the most important.

heh even though i played the first doom back in its day and loved it and it was a revolution, but it was first with doom3 that i really feel in love with the series, so i diffently dont think doom 3 suck.

I think the best pc game(s) of all time come when they are the most evolutionary.  Games like Everquest who pretty much made MMOs popular and without it World of Warcraft wouldnt exsist.  Age of Empires is another great game it help paved the way of almost every RTS made.  Games that are very successful will end up being copied by other developers.

What about this classic 1980's rpg. The first rpg I ever played I might add.

Newbies and kids, I present to you: The very first first person rpg ever made: Dungeon Master

You needed to eat and  drink in order to survive. And if you didn't have a torch, you where blind! Torches would go out gradually, eventually leaving you in the dark...

This is a game that won loads of GOTY awards back in the 1980's.

I actually don't believe in words like "best". Sorry, but I find things are way to relative to be defined like that.  Anyhow, my favorite games, in no particular order, are:

Fallout 1&2
Planescape Torment
Wizardry 8
Arcanum
Grim Fandango
The Longest Journey

It is very difficult to say which game is the BEST PC game of all time. I don't believe there can be one unless you have played every single PC game that came out and then decided. I myself have not played a wide variety of PC games, but from what I have played I can say that the original Sims was one of the most revolutionary and entertaining games on the PC. If I said WoW was the best I'd blow my head off. It is an fun game but that's just what it is, an fun game.

I've been gaming on the PC long enough to have seen a lot of trends and eras.  I have to say that there can be no clear winner.  I have personal favorites such as NHL Hockey 95, Silent Service II, Sea Rogue, and Eight Ball Deluxe (pinball from Amtex) that most people would never consider as the greatest game of all time.  However, having said that, there were a lot of worthy games:  Diablo series, Need For Speed series, Railroad Tycoon, Doom, Wolfenstein 3D series, TIE Fighter, Command & Conquer series, and even some newer games like Far Cry.  It's really hard to say.  As has already been suggested, there are a lot of different genres and it's a case of different strokes for different folks.

Half Life series easily beats WOW .

IMO ... Half Life series one of the best P.C Games.

indzman

Thank god someone managed to refute the idiocy of that linear as hell game being "best game ever". As indzman said, half Life as well as games such as Deus Ex, Morrowind, Starcraft, and so forth easily beat WoW. Seriously, why WoW???
