Poll Would you still work at your current place of employment if you won a lottery? (37 votes)

Yup,still working at the current job if I won millions? 38%
Heck no way, living off the money I’ve won and getting drunk, stoned and laid every night? 62%

I’d have to be honest and say I’d stay at my current job I’m working at if I would win millions or inheritance?

What about you GS gamers? Still working or travelling to warmer climate and enjoying luxurious life for life?

No. Work is just work. I do it to pay the bills. If I was no longer required to work then I wouldn't work. I don't get anything else out of it.

Nope. I might give them a few months because they're in a tight spot seeing as no one wants to work there right now, but I'd work on getting out of there.

As for what I'd do, I'd go back to school, get some certifications or maybe my masters in psychology or something, and get a job as a social worker or something and help people. Part time, of course.

I don't want to work for a company that makes products any more. I want to provide a service, do some actual good.

Even if I do win the $50 million dollar lottery, I'll still work only because I do in fact love my career, I'm almost reaching 20 years total at my job but what I can say is that I'll go into part-time while I'll still come to work for only 2 days half-time hours so I'll still have a job. I was born to move around, not sit on my ass all day despite I do play games all day, a gamers gonna get out the house ya'know. "Yup, still working at the current job if I won millions" cause money doesn't make me happy, my family does and the same goes for my gaming habits.

Probably, but I'd drop back to hourly. I like a lot of what I do at work. Depending on the amount I might even give them a loan to get a better facility and buy a few more CNC machines.

I would still be working full time but I would stop giving 110% all the time every workday. Start doing 70-80% like most of my coworkers.

My career is very important to me because I want to earn lots of money. If I was already financially independent, this whole career mumbo jumbo wouldn't matter to me anymore. But I simply can't see myself not working, the reason I've been able to keep up to this rate is because I love my job.

Hell no. The company I work for is pretty terrible. I probably wouldn't continue my line of work at all if I won the lottery. Now I would still find stuff to do that is more personally fulfilling, but I doubt it would be a 40 hour a week job where I clock in and out every day.

@davillain-: Well, my current job doesn't really allow it, and even if they did I learned back in February when there was too much snow to get to work, that I can really only do about 40% of my job remotely anyways because our network kinda sucks. That said, I have been trying to get an acceptable remote position ever since I lost my last job so I can resume working from home.

I would stick with it for something to do. I wouldn't tell anyone at work but I'd maybe reduce my hours and be less dedicated to it but it's a fun enough job.

Absolutely not. I'd hire an architect to design me a house and then I'd fill it with Legos and play with them for the rest of my days.

Probably not my current job but I'd probably be down to have a job just because I enjoy productivity, but at that point my choice in work would take priority in being something fun more than anything, or start my own business.

I would continue working like normal.

First I would focus on paying off debt. No debt on my place would be nice. Might even get a place or two for renting out if there is money for it, if not, put some into funds. Some into stock marked.

I'd stick around at least in the short term. I feel I'll need to take it all in for a couple of months before making any significant changes (if at all) in my life.

It's easy to say you would quit and stop working, but what else would you do? Do rich people not work because they're rich? I think you can find something you enjoy doing. But yeah, I would also find it difficult to stick to a 5 day week 9 to 5 schedule if I was filthy rich. I mean I wouldn't mind it, but I'd also want to take off a couple months of vacation. The only answer to that problem I can think of is to become your own boss.

Rich people (and let's assume you mean the obscenely wealthy, i.e. millionaires and billionaires) generally keep working because they want power. They're not working because they need more money. That's why you always hear about how they pay themselves a token $1 salary a lot of the time like it some gracious gesture of solidarity with their workers lol. Smoke and mirrors.

And rich people work isn't really work in the traditional sense. Is flying in a private jet to France to meet with politicians and eat caviar while you talk work? I guess? But not really.

But overall I agree with your message, good to stay busy. As for myself, I'd probably open a small place. Probably pursue my Dungeons and Dragons-themed brewpub where I would brew beer and host DnD games. It'd be small and manageable and in a small college town somewhere. I'd have short hours probably during the evening maybe Wednesday-Saturday.

I've been doing manual labor since I was 14 years old (I'm almost 40 now), probably averaging 50-hour work weeks. I'm ready for rest, ready to take it easy. My bones hurt lol.

I would quit in a heartbeat and move out of California. Not sure which state, but it'd be rural. Be outside of a smaller city with lots of acreage, but within driving distance of say a Costco. I would likely work part-time as a consultant and be more focused on finance/investing.

I work from home and at my own pace analysing data for a grants company. I enjoy my job as it's fulfilling and takes my mind off pain. I have a short attention span so i'd be bored doing nothing.

I'd buy my own house somewhere in a nice country village where it's quiet and away from moronic neighbours. I'd maybe pour my money into researching my chronic pain and helping others who suffer. Sorting out the planet would be a fantastic investment, but would the lottery be enough..??

I work to pay the bills and buy toys for my family and me, if I won enough money to live off of the minute I had the money in the bank I'd just simply stop going to work. I could find TONS of stuff to keep me busy and happy, work isn't one of those.

I love what I do but I would work out how to continue my job but spend more time with my family.

If you don't like what you do, don't take advantage of a sudden windfall to do nothing. Take advantage of the fact that you no longer need your job to support you to find a job you love.

Depends how much. Most likely no. Previous employer 7 guys won the lottery each got 1.25 million.

One I worked with told me coworkers were constantly begging for money. Ended up quitting. They also had relatives bugging for loans.

I would transition out of the job over 6 months to a year. I wouldn't want to leave my place of work high and dry. My career is a job that can be all consuming and to get the accolades is less about being good, but about being on boards and schmoozing.

Whether I would want to stay on part-time or in a consultant role, that may be possible.

Quite frankly, I have many other ways to fill my time and would still do other academically intensive things. I'd like to go back to coaching high school sports which I did more than a decade ago. There was no money in it but was basically a dream "job."

However, it depends on the winnings. I live in one of the most expensive cities on the planet, and I have no intention of moving away (I would probably snow bird a lot though, even though it doesn't snow.)
