Oh dear, I realise you have amazing skills at tangents and the derailment of threads, however you have a huge fundemantal flaw.

All your opinions, ideas and reasoning are based upon a book written 2000 years ago by sheep herders. Until you start thinking for yourself and form your own opinion on matters you are limited and crippled.

You really stretch things when you don't have a rebuttal. We were talking about your uninformed opinions on the state of living in the US....which has NOTHING to do with religion. Yes I do know what a straw man is...your counter in this thread.

Not exactly what I meant; I can't drink, date girls, eat pork or other haram meat, get laid, gamble, go to nightclubs, go to parties at my college, jerk off, watch porn, etc. I hate to sound like a whining teenager but believe me, you guys get to do way more than we're allowed to.

Not to mention I can't even eat right now. It's Ramadan and I'll be fasting until the 20th of August, though that I've gotten used to by now (I've been doing it since I was 12). But keeping up with that and praying 5 times a day year-round does present itself as a challenge every once in a while.

No, you're fine. I'm not saying I dislike or disagree with my religion's ideas or teachings. Of course I want to follow it otherwise I wouldn't be. I'm just talking about the more difficult aspects of following an organized religion since that's what this thread is all about.

A lot of people disagree here (which is fine) but I'd like to hear someone who strictly follows all the same things and say they disagree completely.

Exactly why I can't respect organized religion. I'm especially referring to the part about masturbation I find organized religion's propensity to villify the satisfaction of natural human urges particularly reprehensible. Extreme asceticism is a terrible philosophy, all it leads to is repression and unwarranted feelings of guilt. I much prefer the Aristotelian mean condition.

Being a christian isn't difficult.

Being a christian with a deep seated need to push religion into politics can be difficult.

I come here asking for help because i see alot of religious and christian threads here in OT.

I have to spread the word, even at the risk of being an outcast and/or rejected by friends, family and strangers. I have to abandon all the sinful things that i used to do. And i have to give God time in the day for the Bible and prayer.

With those basic Christian things aside, the attacks from Satan are difficult too... they are so vicious and mislead me! In the blink of an eye, i find myself doing the things i used to as soon as i put my mind on worldly things... even for a second.

I admit, i fail from time to time, but i do pick myself back up. Its just that sometimes i find it all very overwhelming. Is it more difficult for me because i am a late Christian? meaning that after years of a worldly lifestyle, this sudden change is normal to be difficult on me?

Second_Hokage
You didn't choose the easy life my friend, you choose the best one. If people condemn you for it, just know that the only one with any say in that matter is is on your side. Also, the attacks from the enemy are evidence that you've taken up a sword against the enemy. Just give it all to Jesus, when you want to do something wrong, just pray, hard.

I completely disagree. There is a belief that if one truly loves God then he will act accordingly. However, this is only a partial truth. I, for one, have had many prayers that essentially stated, "I love you Lord but my actions do not show it. Help me to be faithful, and I thank you that you have forgiven me despite me." Such a struggle is not one that causes a lack of self esteem but keeps me humble and forever praising the grace of God.

Well one way to be a 'good Christian' is not to follow the example of those who use religion as a way to hate on others. A 'good Christian' should be open minded and accepting of the difference around them, that God loves everyone and everything regardless and the bible is not a manual that tells you to hate and kill anyone different than you, but that it's real intent is to promote cooperation and understanding of your fellow human beings. Belief doesn't come from being like those who hate simply because they are too ignorant of the world around them, belief comes from the heart. Going to church and reading the bible isn't what's important, what is important is just accepting that there is more to life than what a few say.

[QUOTE="Smokescreened84"]Well one way to be a 'good Christian' is not to follow the example of those who use religion as a way to hate on others.

I like your sig quote a lot. In a world full of plastic, people do forget that their brain is the self, not the body.

Thank you, it was just something that came to my thoughts when I was creating a new sig. I tend to quote my story character of Reina Beaumont often for my signatures when it comes to forums. I've always felt that there is more to a person than what we see on the outside. Who we are is not determined by our bodies, but by something much deeper.

The Bible says that Satan is misleading the entire inhabited Earth (Revelation 12:9). What this means is that it will be very difficult to walk the straight and narrow path of a true Christian. Basically the whole world is pressuring you to do otherwise, 24/7. The best way to do it is to surround yourself with others who are trying to live the same way that you are.

I honestly can't decide if the OP is sarcastic or serious.

Because people have very little self control and being a "good christian" requires self control. It has nothing to do with Satan, it has to do with a persons ability to do things (or not do things) even when those experiences may not be the most pleasurable experience for the body or mind.

Very well said. It's about long-term payoff vs. impulsiveness and short-term gratification. Not getting caught up in the mob mentality that is this world is tough.

Its easier said than done. When one side (worldly) is stronger than the other (Christian) its difficult to maintain a long term obedience. As for Satan having nothing to do with and that people can change on their own! Nothing could be furthest from the truth. The bible says that we are not strong enough to withstand the attacks of satan on our own, so we cant just decide and maintain any disipline on our own without Gods help. I cant tell you how many times ive failed because ive tried changing on my own without prayer and asking god for help. We are sinful people living and sorrounded by a sinful world, we gravitate to the world naturally, thats why you cant do it on your own. (sorry for my grammar) I want to thank all those who replyed honestly and positively, ive read and taken your advises to heart.

[QUOTE="tenaka2"]

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"] Straw man. We were talking about your lack of experience living in the US. But it's not like we aren't used to your constant deflections in other threads.....LJS9502_basic

Straw man? Your outlook is based on religion, your arguments are based on religion your opinions are based upon religion.

You do know what a strawman is right?

You really stretch things when you don't have a rebuttal. We were talking about your uninformed opinions on the state of living in the US....which has NOTHING to do with religion. Yes I do know what a straw man is...your counter in this thread.

lol
Such a good response

Being a Christian is easy. All you have to do is pretend.

Being a Christian is difficult because you are demanded of much which in our fallen state is difficult to do or accomplish. Only through communion to Christ his body, repentance and prayer can we even begin to live as we are demanded.
