[QUOTE="Famiking"]I heard that they are equal when you average them out, but there are more dumb men than dumb women and there are more very intelligent men compared to very intelligent woman. Not from very credible sources but it makes sense to me. In a classroom, both the smartest and dumbest tend to be men. Men outnumber women in prisons by far, but men also make most scientific breakthroughs. Diablo-B
I read this article, it was a study done with i think like a thousand men and women who were given standardized tests. Men had a wider distribution while most women gravitated to the middle. So they average out but men are more likely to be either really dumb or really smart while women tend to be either average, slightly above or slightly below. So your more likely to find a genius man then a genius women. This article was given as a passage in one of my examines so i don't remember the reference but you can always google that.I think I've read that article...and it does seem to make sense. Women have a more standardised level of intelligence. You don't get very many moronic women, but you also don't get very many women with the kind of intellect of Einstein or Hawking. Whereas us men are all over the shop.
Anyway, I think men and women have differing strengths and weaknesses. For example, I have read another article which says that women do better on EQ (Emotional Quotient) tests than men, while men outperform women in IQ tests. That is because the IQ test favours logical reasoning and analytical thought, which is a traditionally/biologically male trait (just think of men as prehistoric hunters for example, they were wired to be problem solvers), whereas women, in keeping with their traditional roles as carers and nurturers are more empathetic.
Those roles are gradually changing, but I don't think you can say either side is "smarter" than the other...
