Originally I signed up to be SolidGamer as a reference to Metal Gear Solid, but at the time, GameSpot had free and paid accounts, and free accounts had the _basic tag. I don’t really remember what happened, but I guess they chopped off the r and added the _basic lol. What about you, OT? What’s the story behind your GameSpot handle?

I forgot why I chose it, I might have been drunk, but it was from an SNL skit "Dog Show" with Molly Shannon and Will Ferrell. I was like "Mr Bojangles has a nice ring to it"

Not the best choice in hindsight but, well...drunk.

The story behind my handle is a short story in the Conan series. The Devil in Iron is a mediocre short story, but the title is pretty cool and so is the bad guy. At first the Devil kicked Conan's ass, but Conan came back and opened a can of whup ass.

My account started as a troll alt, back when SW was active/fun. Eventually just settled into being my account lol.

Not hard to guess the rest. Love Conan The Barbarian 82. Love me some smoke.

Moral of the story, might as well get stoned and take steroids.

Probably thought of mine with no thought at all, to be honest. Figured just have something simple that wasn't already taken (so I don't have to add random numbers or characters to it) and like a regular name instead of some crazy handle like "SolidGame_Basic" or whatever.

Shit I don't even remember lol. Pretty sure it was a carry over from the first merger with Gfaqs. Pretty sure it got banned too, when the boards were way more strict.

Thing is, made a bunch of other throwaway accounts for SW back then. Played all sides of the fanboy game, instigated so much shit. 😂

Only Chaz knows the true extent of the fuckery lol. Man, the boards were way more fun then.

Archangel from the X-Men comics. Tried a few others at first such as Spiderman and Wolverine but they were already taken. Finally just tried to come up with a number that most likely wouldn’t have already been taken and just went with what I got now.

Mine is fairly obvious, while I grew up on PS1 games, my most vivid early gaming memories were with the PS2 and the first game I played on it and loved was the original Ratchet and Clank. Even as an adult I find the games have great gameplay and for the most part good storylines with decent humour (the first 3 being the best, the writing went soft after those).

@ConanTheStoner: Those were the days man, I was part of some organized troll groups back then where me and a group of users worked together to troll this site.

One of the more clever ones I remember we made an OT thread where we were writing incredibly cringe poems about our love for a music singer.

Everyone thought these poems were so weird and cringe, and everyone was making fun of us.

Then like 9 pages in someone noticed the hidden messages. In our poems if you took the first letter of every line it read things like.

"H

E

R

M

U

S

I

C

S

U

C

K

S

B

U

T

W

E

L

I

K

E

H

E

R

B

E

W

B

S"

Yeah the fallout was pretty amazing once everyone caught on. Lol

@jaydan:

lol nice. I remember Chaz made SW threads like that, also took ppl forever to catch on. Might have got it from y'all.

You remember when we had game specific boards, people would take dead ones and make em their own? And then Super Troll Island became the spot for trolls to coordinate. 😂

I'm a big Bond movie fan and I used to use a 'Bond007' type user name on quite a few websites I signed up for back in the day. Don't bother looking them though, this is the only one now.

My avatar picture has a double meaning. Obviously, the fictional Mr Bond works for the British Government, and currently so do I!

I'll only show this pic, the video would not be appropriate. Anyway it's from The Drawn Together Movie: The Movie. The story is that the drawn together TV show is canceled, and this girl took the participants to this place called Makepoint land, where everything has a point (and if they had a point they would not be canceled). So the point of Pfizersaurus Rex (a dinosaur high on Viagra) is that if we keep listening to pharmaceutical companies we too shall be extinct. It was so bizarre I loved it haha!

A mojito is a Cuban cocktail (rum, lime juice, soda water, sugar cane juice, and mint.)

When I signed up for Gamespot (seems like forever ago), I was a bartender at a Cuban Restaurant. Good money that helped pay for my teaching degree. Great times, amazing memories. Whenever I log on here and see my user name, it really brings me back!

Vampires fascinate me. They're my favourite type of monster. Also, I tend to avoid sunlight by sleeping during the day and being awake at night, so I have pale skin (like a vampire). The 16 comes from me having been born on the 16th of November.

Once upon a time in a small town called Crestwood, there lived a young boy named Liam James Sullivan. Liam was an imaginative and curious child, always seeking adventure in the simplest of things. He had a keen interest in technology and spent hours tinkering with computers and video games.

One sunny afternoon, Liam stumbled upon an old, dusty box in his grandparents' attic. Inside, he discovered a treasure trove of ancient artifacts, including an ancient video game console. With a gleam of excitement in his eyes, Liam blew off the dust and carefully connected the console to his television.

As he powered it on, the screen flickered to life, revealing a captivating game called "Basic Adventures." Intrigued, Liam selected a character and dove into the virtual world. He spent countless hours exploring pixelated landscapes, battling monsters, and solving puzzles.

One fateful day, while Liam was immersed in his virtual quest, a power surge hit his town, causing his console to malfunction. Panicked, Liam desperately tried to salvage his progress, but to no avail. His character's name and all his achievements were lost, erased by the sudden surge.

Undeterred, Liam was determined to forge a new path. Inspired by his own name, he decided to create a username that would remind him of his journey. He chose "LJS" as an abbreviation of his initials, and added "9502" as a homage to the year he was born.

But he didn't stop there. Liam wanted to remind himself of the importance of starting from scratch, embracing the basics, and learning from every setback. He added the word "basic" to his username, symbolizing the foundation upon which he would build his new adventures.

From that day forward, Liam adopted the username "LJS9502_basic" as a reminder of his resilience and the joy he found in exploring the vast digital landscapes. With his newfound identity, he continued to conquer virtual worlds, leaving a mark wherever he went.

As years passed, Liam's username became well-known within gaming communities, where he became recognized for his skill, determination, and humble beginnings. He even had the opportunity to meet fellow gamers who admired his journey and the story behind his unique username.

In the end, it wasn't just a combination of letters and numbers. "LJS9502_basic" became a symbol of passion, perseverance, and the power of starting anew. And as Liam continued to venture through virtual realms, he carried his origin story with him, a constant reminder of the adventure that sparked it all.

When I was a young man in the early 80s I played a WW2 strategy boardgame called Axis and Allies.

Fast forward to 1998 or thereabouts and a CD ROM version of the game was produced allowing internet play. I joined a new club called Spring1942.

My handle at the club was: Soon_U_Die. I shortened that to SUD when signing forum posts.

Then I just tacked on the numbers when joining GameSpot.

I still like it today, but primarily because of the metaphysical context.

That should be fairly easy I love cats XD
My old handle was 2ndwonder and it came from the name as a music producer I like (which I still do)
I just didn't want to use the same exact name as him.
