You can think what you like.

I've been here awhile...I'm used to people that go personal instead of discuss merit. Though they tend to blur until I don't remember them. You are arguing my answer because you don't like it. Period. Not discussing the topic with me.

LJS9502_basic

If my problem was your answer I would quote your answer. :| Period. :|

Do you really think that I am arguing because I want to force you to (even hypothetically) convert? :| Quite a plot!

Hmm, considering in the past you've criticized me for coming into threads and attacking you "without reading the entire conversation" (an assumption which was false, but which you were unwilling to admit ;)), I'm guessing that post was directed at least in part at me. You've never been very subtle about these things, LJS.

chessmaster1989

Sorry to disappoint but I wasn't referring to specifics. Though I noticed you and another user get into that discussion the other day.

It has nothing to do with being close-minded. Why not open your mind and understand some people may not be able to answer the question.

stepnkev

As I said, it is not meant to be a serious question. Look at my first post in this thread and you'll see I was not giving a serious answer.

If you don't think you can answer, don't post. It's as simple as that.

Thanks for the concern, but I am able to post when and how I please. There is nothing wrong with what I posted as my answer.

Wait, so you're complaining about being "forced" to answer a topic that you yourself chose to post in? This is akin to being offended by gay sex, renting a gay porn DVD knowing full well what it is, and then complaining to the store about how offended you were when you watched it. Then, when the manager tells you that you chose to rent the DVD, that no one forced you to, and that you should have just not rented it in the first place if you knew you were going to be offended by it, you choose to reply that "thanks for the concern, but I am able to rent movies when and how I please".

No, we are arguing because you deliberately ignored the question. Honestly, LJS, just don't post if you're not going to post something relevant.

chessmaster1989

Wrong. I didn't ignore the question. I gave two sides to the question as what I believe. Now...we've finished this discussion and I'm not defending my answer. It is what it is whether you accept it or not.

Yeah, um, just a little detail: I dont argue about your original answer. But you saying that this is an illogical hypothesis.

Thats the reality of the issue whether you accept it or not.

Actually it does. You seem to think an opinion can be wrong. Opinion in this case is based on what a person believes about faith and conversion. It's not based on factual evidence which may skew an opinion. Hypothetically what religion would you convert to...etc. My answer is none. For the reasons I outlined.

LJS, you had told me that when you argue with someone, you only do so when you are right. Had you not? This excludes a matter of mere opinion.

I had enough reason to believe you were actually debating and not just stating your opinion on the matter.

I cant read into your posts without having any indication as to whether you dont want to debate (while actually there were plenty indications that you did).

If memory serves correct LJS you began arguing that the question was irrelevent and then stated that it is not logical and doesn't make sense. That is not an opinion. Logic is not an opinion.

I argued against the fact that someone said hypothetical makes it illogical in definition yes. And I've stated that it's not logical for a couple reasons as my answer....meaning to me it's not logical. However, the argument I had with logic and hypothetical stands. Just because someone uses the word hypothetical that does not mean illogical on face value.

Well you got one thing wrong: its not illogical.

Besides from the examples I gave you (a post you didnt respond to) there are hypothetical question which seem illogical but arent. They just dont adhere to strict logic or reality (meaning what is valid in the current conditions). Hence why they are hypothetical. They are improbable in reality.

Of course you can. It is possible.

Your problem is trying to see the hypothetical question as part of reality. Its not supposed to be part of it. Thats why its hypothetical. It most likely wont ever happen (or is impossible to happen [but not illogical mind you]) and puts you in this hypothetical (non real [not illogical again mind you]) situation in order to see the results.

In my response I gave two opposite viewpoints and why I felt it was lacking logic. You might not like it...but that was my reasoning as to why I answered as I did. And it was correct as well. One can form an opinion after logically looking over the various responses you know.

No you can't. Faith comes from within. Not outward. When can you honestly and truly make someone believe? I'd like some proof of that. If I force you to be conservative with all their ideologies....would you be?

This is were you are mistaken and contridicting yourself.

First you told me that your opinion is undebatable because its just an opinion and now you tell me its correct. Which is it?

If its the first, then no its not correct. If its the second, am I not allowed to debate it?

There would be no reason, be it a threat to my life or supposed irrefutable evedence against my religion that would make me change mybelife in christ.

Dude, it's a hypothetical question. Either comply with it's conditions, or don't post. :|

No you can't. Faith comes from within. Not outward. When can you honestly and truly make someone believe? I'd like some proof of that. If I force you to be conservative with all their ideologies....would you be?

LJS9502_basic

There are many people in the past that have been forced to believe in various things through manipulation, coersion and torture.

[Well you got one thing wrong: its not illogical.

Besides from the examples I gave you (a post you didnt respond to) there are hypothetical question which seem illogical but arent. They just dont adhere to strict logic or reality (meaning what is valid in the current conditions). Hence why they are hypothetical. They are improbable in reality.

Teenaged

In my response I gave two opposite viewpoints and why I felt it was lacking logic. You might not like it...but that was my reasoning as to why I answered as I did. And it was correct as well. One can form an opinion after logically looking over the various responses you know.

This is were you are mistaken and contridicting yourself.

First you told me that your opinion is undebatable because its just an opinion and now you tell me its correct. Which is it?

If its the first, then no its not correct. If its the second, am I not allowed to debate it?

Again...it's opinion. My opinion is correct for me.

That's not really believing. That's called playing a game....;)

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]*sigh* It's illogical for the reasons I posted IN MY ANSWER. You did read my answers as to why I found it to lack logic....right? Though I could say stating that someone MUST convert is also not using logic...because you can't force faith.

LJS9502_basic

Of course you can. It is possible.

Your problem is trying to see the hypothetical question as part of reality. Its not supposed to be part of it. Thats why its hypothetical. It most likely wont ever happen (or is impossible to happen [but not illogical mind you]) and puts you in this hypothetical (non real [not illogical again mind you]) situation in order to see the results.

No you can't. Faith comes from within. Not outward. When can you honestly and truly make someone believe? I'd like some proof of that. If I force you to be conservative with all their ideologies....would you be?

Proselytisation. Forced conversion (Jenisars in Turkey etc etc).

Thats why you are given a choice LJS. The question does not imply that you have to convert to a specific religion and the opposite of your current at that!

For instance, say mindstorm could choose the one that's closer to Christianity. Same with you. Thats just a guess though.

Again you are applying strict logic.

Dont argue to that point where its actually a debate and not expressing an opinion.

Ah and I am not telling you what to do. I am merely responding to you not liking with me correcting your opinion.

Um nope. I at some point pointed out to you that its just a hypothetical question and then you started debating how it defies logic and its unanswerable etc etc.

I am complying with your conditions. there is NO condition in this universe that would make me convert. If Jack Bauer came up to me and told me al-queda would unleash a nuclear bomb onto los angelas(this comes to mind cause im going thru 24 right now awesome show!) and they would not do it if i would simply convert, i wouldnt do it. I would never deny christ under any circumstances.

ZOMG.

So that's what some people are afraid?

That this hypothetical question devilishly lures them into a situation in order to deny their current faith?

Well it does for several reasons I've mentioned. But that was still my answer. I didn't argue with anyone's answer in here. Not at all.
