I've lived in many states, and I've noticed that 'pop' has been commonly said in the south....So I choose soda, because I think it's more sophisticated :D

I think I obsess because 'pop' has so many meanings in our language, like it's a type of music and has many verb meanings to, wheras 'soda' just means one thing.

That's why I try to avoid confusion.

I have no speech problems.

bigblunt537

"...has many verb meanings.." What?

"I popped the can open", "pop a cap in his ass" "I'm about to pop you in the mouth" "The guy popped off" All different verb meanings. lol

lmao nice username.

I hate it.. I made it like 6 years ago and people think just because of my user name that my post don't count. I usually hear stuff like "yea, coming from a guy named "bigblunt" that means a lot". I made this name because of a rap song and I liked the way he said it. Plus I was 13. lol

I prefer the more pretentious term chilled carbonated liquid beverage. Roles right off the ol' tongue.

BreakTheseLinks

Or the acronym CCLB.

Its TOTALLY the opposite here. Pop reminds me of rock and roll, and drive in diners, and the 50's in general.

Pop is more of a Northerner thing to say, I've never heard someone from the South say Pop, but people I know from the North call it pop, which annoys the hell out of me.

Coke is really just the general name we label all sodas. Like "Pick up a couple of cokes when your at the store" and that could mean getting a Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper, or even an actual Coke. Basically, if you want a Pepsi ask for a Pepsi. If you want a Dr. Pepper ask for a Dr. Pepper. If you don't care then ask for a coke. It's really just our way of saying soda.

It's pop, not soda. Although I will accept soda from time to time, just because people that call pop "Coke" are just plain inhuman (I'm looking at you, Texans).

[QUOTE="blooddog28"]i always call any kind of soda drink, coke.Locke562
That's like calling tissues "Kleenex", or Tires 'Bridgestones", But worse!

I hate when people call Tissues Kleenex, when i used to work at shoppers we would have another brand on sale and people would come up to me and asked where the kleenex that was on sale are, followed by me saying there is none on sale then me having to show them were it was and showing there was no sale sign there, then they would point to the royal tissues and be like "There right there!"

But anyway i usally call it a soft drink.

*Edit: I think it is actually supposed to be called cola coke-cola, pepsi-cola etc.
