I think you'd have to have some knowledge of British Hostory and culture, but like I said to another poster earlier.
Beijing = flash
London= substance
Zaibach
You'd have to have some knowledge of Chinese history and culture, because the 2008 ceremony was all about celebrating 5000 years of them:P It had just as much flash and substance as the London ceremony.

Strenght in numbers
I wonder how many Americans rolled their eyes when they saw the NHS segment. >__>
Anyway I liked the ceremony. It wasnt anything very spectacular but I liked that the British focused on relatively modern stuff, unlike the Greek ceremony which was based on ancient mythology/art and the Chinese which was based on their thousands of years old tradition.

Teenaged
Of course they rolled their eyes, they're jelly.
Yays! The Americans who upset the South Koreans in team archery claimed the silver in a tense shoot out with the Italians who happily claimed the gold after a devastating loss in the last Olympics thus vidicating their legacy.
Those team Archery matches were pretty tense and fun to watch. There must've been so much pressure on that last Italian guy.

Yeah it was good fun to watch and very tense with the Italians claiming the gold by having to shoot a perfect shot on the very last shot. Though I would have preferred a tie shoot out event or gold for the Americans, it was still good competition with lots of ridiculously good shooting so I was happy.
Man that comeback victory in women's individual foil fencing by the Italian Di Francisca over South Korea's Nam H.H. from a 5 touch deficit was just awesome stuff! Such great defense by both women with battles without touches going back and forth.
You're right. A lot of mixed opportunities but I felt they were trying to go for the "in-culture" thing with the text messaging thing and what not. It would have been awesome to do something LOTR or Newton related but I guess it would have been more expensive too. I completely agree on Mr. Bean/Rowan Atkinson though :)The ceremony was good but too much was spent on the modern digital era and music! When it came to novels and literature they missed too much, why no Dickens? Roald Dahl? Tolkein? Shakespeare? All we got was Voldemort. Why no knights in shining armor? Why no science? Where was Newton? Faraday? Maxwell? Rutherford?
There was too much flashy dancing and not enough of the great history and contribution of the UK. However, Mr. Bean single handedly won it!

Fixed (...since they are the reigning world champions and just defended their European championship.)
Even though it's the U-23 team, this is kind of disappointing :(
Just saw an article. 16 year old girl beat worlds record ... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2180836/London-Olympics-2012-Chinese-swimmer-Ye-Shiwen-breaks-world-record.html?ito=feeds-newsxmlJasonDarksavior
That's pretty cool. Sixteen seems so young.
It seems like swimming records are beat at every olympics. HOW DO THEY KEEP GETTING FASTER?

Probably insane amounts of training. I really doubt she was doping since China would never allow to get their reputation tarnished.Im a little frustrated with NBC's bad handling of Olympic coverage on TV, thankfully I can watch it online.
Is it wrong to be attracted to some of these 16 year old gymnasts? Talk about jailbait lonewolf604
A lot of them look like little kids.
