Jessie J needs to be given a private reprogramming session for ruining Queeen, and maybe Russell Brand for thinking he can be a walrus like John, Paul, Ringo, and George too.

Gee, you'd think people would only be happy if Mercury himself and half the Beatles rose from the dead to perform in the closing ceremony.

They had a hologram of Freddie, why not keep it on and have Holo-Freddie perform with the living Queen members?

Music choices for the most part sucked,

The 60's had so many great British bands and musicians and was probably the start of British music influencing others where as before it's been American Music influencing British Music), Ray Davies was good (pity Dave Davies was unable to be there although guess with the bassist dying there'd be no one to stop them knocking lumps out of each other on stage... again), so were the Who (damn Daltrey can STILL belt out some of the classics), Beatles (naturally), John Lennon bit was good too), Suprised there was no Stones, Yardbirds, Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Move, etc, etc

Absolutely no mention of either glam rock (Bolan/T-Rex, Slade, etc) and no punk at all which is amazing considering London was the centre of UK punk, and they could have had London Calling by the Clash on as part of the hand-over to Rio. They should have had David Bowie there, know he's pretty much retired, Nice to see Nick Mason (thought Dave Gimour and RogerWaters would have agreed to appear to so was disappointed).

Seems like they skipped over the 80's apart from The Pet Shop Boys and Madness they never really had much from the decade, the Queen bit was great to a point (and we all know what that point was... talentless bint), Annie Lennox segment - just weird.

And then for the 90's you had George Michael's crap solo career, Blur, Oasis Light otherwise known as Beady Eye (and their cos-play guitarist appearing as Noel Gallagher, seriously go back and look lol), but none of the other bands from Manchester from that era (and there's a hell of a lot of bands that could of been chosen) Fatboy Slim but no Prodigy or Chemical Brothers. And why-o-why did we have to thrust the spice girls on the world again, we'd only just about been forgiven (just) for letting them lose on the world in the 90's.

Really liked the Kaiser Chiefs doing Pinball Wizard, was one of the highlights of the night, other than that can't really comment on any of the other music fromt he last 10 years as not my sort of music so never listen to it.

I like how NBC cut out Muse and pushed The Who back to 12:00 so they could use the hour after 11 to promote their new show Animal Practice.

A recount of Fox Network paranoid musings during the olympics http://www.alternet.org/media/8-crazy-fox-freakouts-about-olympics 1. The opening ceremony serves as socialist propaganda. 2. There was not enough jingoism shown by the US teams and public 3. Athletes were wearing pink instead of american flags 4. US athlete wardrobe was too "French" 5. Celebrating with gang dancing is evil 6. Reminding people about the importance of cooperating and teamwork is disgusting. 7. Dipping the flag is un-american even if no one was planning to dip the flag 8. Athletes paying taxes for their medals is evil even if no one was charging them taxes

Spice girls? WTH?

Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath would have been an Epic closing ceremony (let alone alongside beatles they are the most influential bands )

The first incident of medal stripping has hit the London Olympics while the athletes are trickling home as Belarus shot putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk was stripped of her gold this morning for testing positive for the steroid metenolone before and after her competition making Valerie Adams of New Zealand the gold medalist, Evgeniia Kolodko of Russia moves up to silver and Lijiao Gong of China will receive a bronze.

Who else thought the Kaiser Chiefs did a great cover of The Who's "Pinball Wizard"??

edit:
"Coz I Luv You" Slade - You Tube Video

This is what I mean about a whole era of music being ignored (and for those old enough to remember them they were one of the biggest bands of the early to mid 70's)

Yeah it was brilliant cover. They get a lot of hate but I think they're a great band.

For the 90s they could of picked from a wide range, but ended up with Spice Girls. To name a few Jamiroquai, New Order, Pulp, Feeder, Stereophonics, Radiohead and The Verve. Then again they should of got New Order and John Barnes to sing World in Motion, that would of made it the best closing ceremonies ever.

they're an awful band hence why they got to do a cover version rather than one of their own songs

And the new gold medalist will not have the chance to stand on top of the podium while her national anthem plays, in front of thousands of spectators world-wide. Cheaters, especially at the Olympics, disgust me.

It wasn't about choosing good bands, but bands that represent the nation during different periods.

It was obviously not about choosing good bands which is why we ended up with half of the absolute dross that we had to endure during the closing ceremony. As for representing the UK, not sure how either George Michael (who has spent the last 15 y ears either in the States or at the fat end of a joint), and Annie Lennox (as good as she is does she really represent the uk?) They had Madness, but what about The Specials, UB40, Shirley Bassey, Gabrielle, Soul II Soul, bands and singers that show the cultural diversity, and influence of other cultures on UK music.

Indeed though she was happy to obtain a gold and retain her position as the best in the world, she was quite naturally upset about being robbed of the emotional payoff of years of hard work by getting to stand in the top position. What's that saying..."You don't win the silver, you lose the gold" and all that. On top of that the Chinese woman now a bronze medalist was robbed of being able to even stand on the podium at all as she was initially relegated into the completely ignored 4th position. Horrible sitation involved but for her part Valerie was at least glad that the Olympic committee is at least very vigilant about these things and that cheaters such as Nadzeya will not only eventually lose their medals, but generally they are banned from competing for a number of years.
