2 movies back to back nights:
Megan Levy = 9.5 / 10 (Iraqi War Drama)
This is one of the 2 best movies of this year (along with Logan), it's still in theatres, go see it! Sexy Kate Mara plays U.S. Marine corporal Levy who is deployed to Iraq at checkpoints and eventually missions as a dog handler for sniffing out ieds. Based on a true story, this memorable movie grips you from start to finish, mostly moving at a good pace. Funny how prolific Gulf War movies have been in recent years, this one is probably the best, although it is truly about the bond she has with her dog rather than focusing on the War. 2 thumbs up! Too bad Levy is a Yankees fan ;) .
Wonder Woman = 8.5 / 10 ( DC Action)
This is DC's best movie to date (apologies to Dark Knight fans) and it would have gotten a better score from me if it hadn't dragged between the time they arrived in London and when they reached the trenches. But once she reveals herself and moves boldly toward the German trenches under enemy fire the movie takes off and never looks back. The final Boss battle was amazing. There may have been a lull in the pacing for a time as mentioned before but the Action highs in this movie are as good as it gets. The movie never gets convoluted as some superhero movies do. Marvel's 2 best movies came out this year and so did DC's best.
Both movies are worth your money and worth seeing on the big screen.
I'm actually the opposite of you when it comes to Wonder Woman. I know that the first part on the island was necessary, but it just bored the hell out of me. I basically couldn't give a shit about her trying to train to become a warrior.
I actually thought the movie got BETTER once Wonder Woman left the island.
And then I sort of hated the end boss fight. I guess because the end of the movie just turned into a bunch of CGI shit on the screen.
I guess I need to get used to this because it's going to become common in EVERYTHING. But I had the same complaint about Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (particularly the end). The final conflict just turns into a bunch of CGI shit.
Also, I'm not going to delve too much into this for spoilery reasons but I'm a bit annoyed that there even WAS a boss fight. Given that a big running theme was the horrors of war, it seemed like a copout to personify war and then kill it. I actually think I would have liked the movie a lot more if it had played out the exact same way and then there was no boss fight.
But yeah, I liked it, mostly. Except for maybe the first 15 minutes and the last 10 minutes.
