  • Sully: 7/10
  • Suicide Squad: 5/10 [Not as bad as some claimed. Leto is a good actor, he had a distinctive, good Joker laugh but you can't do much with shit writing.]
  • Jason Bourne: 5/10 [Stale, unoriginal, predictable. More of the same. Enough with Bourne, enough.]
  • The Girl on the Train: 5/10 [Yikes.]
  • 6 Years: 6/10

i rarely venture outside of a fairly modern radius for the films i watch (pretty much 70s to the present) but i came across a glowing review of this and had to check it out. pretty damn good movie. a slow, plodding plot that perfectly parallels the actions of the main character. some goofy 50s action sequences in there but that can be forgiven. anyone that's into film noir should give it a shot, i suppose.

saw that recently as well. good movie. fassbender was much better as jobs than kutcher. it's like kutcher was trying to put on a perfect imitation of jobs the man and fassbender was portraying jobs as a character from a script. i don't know if that makes too much sense but i found the latter's portrayal to be much more believable in any event.

John Wick 2 - so good. Makes the first movie feel slow (even though the first one is still pretty good).

Ended up seeing Scorsese's Silence yesterday. Wasn't quite the film I was expecting it to be - very complex beautiful and to watch but also very taxing and lengthy. I think I may need to see it again to truly appreciate it.

Also, they should have called it "Godfellas" instead.

Independence day: Resurrgence

EXCELLENT FILM. 10/10, and it's a shame that it didn't win any Oscars when these no-name movies that nobody except "independent film hipster pansies" saw in tiny little independent movie theaters in lower Manhattan. JOKE!!

I might even watch it again! I'm hoping to see Kong: Skull Island next.

Kong: Skull Island = 8.0/10 (Action Adventure)

If you want a good crowd-pleasing popcorn movie with Samuel Jackson, John Goodman, and a host of actors you've seen somewhere before, this is your movie. It's sure to please those who enjoyed the best Jurassic Park movies. Heavy on action, short on plot, but a lot of fun. My favorite Kong movie since the original.

Jesus, its about time someone makes a new thread about this. 60 pages is just insane!

Anyway just watched Silence (Martin Scorcese) - 7/10

Interesting movie about religion and faith (I'm an atheist btw) but I think the movie dragged for waaay too long. Nearly 3! hours

The last movie I watched was Get Out.

I really enjoyed it, and a very fun concept for a horror film, but it also functions well as a great satire piece on white-washing racism.

Those are some of the best movies, though. Not necessarily the ones that try to force something into that route to be unconventional, but that ones that aren't afraid to go that route when the story naturally wants to go that way. I think of some of my favorite literature, and a lot of them have endings that are bittersweet or even downright dark.

Kong: Skull Island 7/10

I went in expecting to HATE this movie, but ended up liking it almost for the same reasons I thought I would hate it.

It's a movie based on a storyline from the early 20th century where giant things pummel each other into oblivion. screenwriters taking sci-fi from this era tend to to wrap it up into some modern science trappings that make no sense (like when the aliens "rode the lighting" in the War of the Worlds), but not this one. It embraced it's ridiculous roots.

"Yep, the Earth his hollow just like Jules Vern said." "The island is surrounded by a perpetual hurricane."

It was like watching an homage to the era when people thought Martians would travel to Earth by shooting themselves in canon shells. It made for a fun, distinct movie and if they continue letting their writers have the freedom this one had then I look forward to what else comes out of the Monsterverse.

Life = 8.0/10 (sci-fi horror)

Very good movie (stupid title) that hopefully more people will see, it's a mix of 50's sci-fi with the original Alien using 21st Century technology , concluding with a twisted ending. Fans of the genre should see it as an appetizer for the upcoming Alien movie.

I saw a movie called Cedar Rapids last night which was really quite good. It had Ed Helms, John C Reily, Anna Heche, and Kurtwood Smith (Red from That 70's Show) all in it. It was a funny sort of slice of life film in that it was humorous, but didn't venture into territory that was so crazy it likely wouldn't happen in real life that you see in a lot of comedies.
