Film is good; manga is a masterpiece.

@sammyjenkis898 read that shit, bro. Also, please tell me Inside Out is good. It doesn't come out here until next month.

I've had it for over two years. I'm so ashamed.

It almost reminded me of Ghibli in terms of concept, what with its world building and conflict that arises from circumstance (hooray for no antagonist!) It delivers exposition of the mechanics of it all pretty quickly (take notes, Nolan). Has the oomph of characters dashing about after having the inevitable epiphany. That quintessential emotional beat that we've come to expect form Pixar is here, and it's arguably one of their most hard-hitting ones - up there with the beginning of Up. Above all, though, it's all cleverly rooted in childhood, and knows full well that what it's dealing with is something universal.

It's top tier Pixar, and easily their most creative since.. well, ever.

EDIT: And I thought you lived in New York. I'm so behind.

Invasion USA

Mainly worth watching to see a small child blown up by a bazooka on Christmas day.

It's an overused remark when comparing the two, but the film really doesn't do the manga justice. There's some obvious needed changes to fit the medium and make a cohesive self-contained three-act structure, but there's a scope to the lore, mythos and world building in the manga that is simply missing from the film. This is a Lord of the Rings type epic, with some Evangelion thrown into the mix. Nausicaa isn't also just some archetypal morally virtuous heroine like she was portrayed for the most part in the film. She never strays too far away from that, but there is an internal conflict and struggle in the manga (there was seeds of this in the film but not enough). And it's not just Nausicaa too, like almost all Miyazaki films characters are multifaceted and not just shades of black and white. Princess Kushana for instance is a far more interesting character than what was shown in in the film. You can see Kushana's extant character traits in Lady Eboshi in Mononoke, which was probably Miyazaki drawing inspiration or making up for the simplification of Kushana. It also makes me wish there was a manga for Princess Mononoke, because on the surface that world looks rich with history and intrigue.

I listened to Joe Hisaishi's score and the SotC soundtrack while reading. SotC's musical landscape works as you would expect, unsurprisingly well. Unless you plan that shit out which nobody ain't got time for, there's obviously going to be some dissonance between the music and what's on the page, but I can't tell you how often the two matched up perfectly. I managed to sync the last few pages with this. For the quieter internal moments. When shit hits the fan. Can we also appreciate how fucking great SotC's soundtrack is.

You did live in New York once, right? Is my memory such shit that I can't even remember where Brutal once lived?

I will favorite these videos for a playlist that won't be opened for another three years. I've seen a lot of people echo your comments on the manga. I'm motivated at the moment. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Oh, and the short before Inside Out is easily Pixar's worst.

Good soundtrack as well, only complaint is that you wind up looking like them by the time it's finished.

Hobo With A Shotgun

Has a few good scenes and a nice soundtrack but practically every character is a dick, even the lead character; Barring the female prostitute the movie has , nobody to root for. Goes a bit too far with the vulgarity. Rutger Hauer is a great though, plays it totally straight.

@da_illest101: Actually with the liberal crowd doing all they can be appease the feminists, it'd actually be refreshing to see a movie come out of Hollywood that's not ashamed of being over sexualized.

They done a good job with Charles Theron - an obviously beautiful woman, turning her into what is a rogue knight turned against an evil king. You could pretty much interchange her with a male character. Even the bit with Max see's the sexy woman dripping in water makes sense in context for what they are and a contrast to all the bad shit that's been happening to him.

Saying that though, sexualized stuff like "Heavy Metal" is still fun.

Saying that though, overspecialized stuff like "Heavy Metal" is still fun. Men like T&A, and if a product is aimed primarily at a male audience, nothing wrong with showing it off.

From all the cosplay culture as well, it seems woman like dressing up as sexy beautiful woman themselfs.

You mean there are women who willing degrade themselves as object of attraction to men?! Color me shocked. [/sarcasm]

BTW this is more directed toward illest101 than you, uninspired.

Well I'll gladly be your definition of balless if it means not getting sexual stuff shove down my throat. Almost all the time it add nothing to the movie or tv show. If I'm in need I'll either call up a girl or watch porn.

Jurassic World: Meh, it was okay. I liked the Indominus Rex but everything else was cookie-cutter predictable BS you can see a mile away. So much potential but little to show for it. That T-Rex cameo was awesome though.

Serenity: No words can describe the amount of thrill I witnessed. Absolutely awesome, 10/10.

Inside Out: A surprising film and... not so predictable? Of course, it has a happy ending like all pixar films but it's different. I liked it. 9/10

That's like every movie (and every other media) out there even up to this day and hardly any movie out there appeases feminists these days. Mad Max was an exception but it wasn't shoved down our throats, contrary to what many idiots have been saying. It had a strong but flawed female character that could have been easily replaced by a male character and no one would have noticed.

That said, don't know why it's a big deal for you.

Jurrasic World. Tons of fun. It's not an all-time great movie, but it was fun. My friends totally loved it. Good for kids. No gory guts or gross scenes. When someone got eaten, it was clean and in one bite. It was like they took care not to scare the kids too much.

@drunk_pi: Ghostbusters? Again it's not just the feminists, but this whole conscious effort to be more politically correct. The whole marvel ethnic swap of superheroes is another example.

As for Mad Max I didn't think it was that bad; the disparity between male and female deaths was kinda jarring.

Not sure why you think it's a big deal for me. I think it's funny that some guys acted so offended when women get objectified.

Fictional characters evolving and being redrawn in every era to reflect the growing diverse population and political/social issues facing this country/world. Characters are coming out gay, there's interracial marriage, gender swaps, and the like. I can sympathize that there are times where I don't want to see my favorite character get dramatically changed but it can, will, and has happened and that's okay. Also, I don't see a whole conscious effort to be more politically correct. In fact, it seems to me that most movies these days have your typical white male doing actiony things, a female romance who does nothing but complain and is entirely useless, "corporations are evil" shtick, typical stereotypical black dude, and annoying kids and only rarely do we see a film with a diverse cast (hell, all white cast as well) with 3 dimensional character traits and a good story.

So as for the whole Ghostbusters gender swap and Marvel ethnic swap, who gives a shit? Hell, sometimes it's even better. Samuel L. Jackson plays an awesome Nick Fury.

As for Mad Max I didn't think it was that bad; the disparity between male and female deaths was kinda jarring.

As for the disparity of male and female deaths in Mad Max, half of the females were killed near the end. As for how they died and how it's shown, yes there is a disparity and this includes all movies out there. Fact is, when it comes to movies, men's deaths are brutal and gory (i.e. Jurassic World).

Not sure why you think it's a big deal for me. I think it's funny that some guys acted so offended when women get objectified.

You're the one bringing the subject up. Seems to me that no one cares but you and the fact that you think it's funny when women get objectified probably tells a lot about you.

theaters- san andreas. effects were awesome but the story outside of the disaster was pretty bad. i really couldnt concentrate though, i just kept thinking about end of the world stuff and how i can save my video game collection if that ever happened

blu ray - dawn of the planet of the apes. i enjoyed it. less action than what i thought but it had some kind of emotional value. no one was wrong...it was just fighting for their own cause
