Gamespot - Memories

What are some of your best memories of GS? They can be old or young. I posted mostly between 2009-2012, and GS has changed a lot since then, both in users and the layout of the site.

Some of my favorite moments:

-The banning of Dracula68 (an admin of the site)

-The return of banned users via popular vote

Omega and ultra were some pretty ok dudes. Not surprised they got banned from GS though haha, they made some suspect posts

Really well actually. I managed to grow up and get an actual job.

Am I the only one who noticed that most people who post on OT nowadays are right-wing conservatives or

centrist? That is a huge change in demographics. Gamespot was a hardcore secular humanist, left-wing liberal

website before the layout of the website changed.

I've always been more of a lurker, but OT was a lot of fun when I first started posting here in 2011, although the activity seemed to be winding down a bit. The rule change in 2012 gave it a brief revival, but then gradually some of the posters here started acting like major pricks. Posters like Aussipet and BanjoKungFooie provided a lot of entertainment, albeit lots of obnoxious trolling. The site has been kind of depressing since the redesign. I miss when each console had it's own board, and I really miss unions.

I remember when OT was more than just me and Dave's alts. Fun times.

The whole KrunkMasta_X kerfuffle and the GS staff and mod team doing their best to avoid talking about it.

I still talk to them on the AFT forums, they're okay but they have bad taste in anime. Don't tell them I said that. ;)

As for memories, I wouldn't say they're the best but there was this one in particular...

SSBFan12 being banned and I did a thread about him after since me and him were good pals around the time unions were still around. I'm talking since 2009 and 2010. Anywho, do I still keep in contact with him? Surprisingly, I don't anymore. I remember how he would always say stuff like him being abused by his parents and how nobody at school likes him but then I found out he was lying the whole time. How do I know this? I found his social networking accounts (he posted a blog about them, didn't find them on my own) when he moved to GameTrailers (he got banned there too). He seemed to be living a happy life with a lot of friends and that's when I really should have called him out on his bullshit and was only making blogs/threads for attention but I never confronted him. Although, he does follow me on Twitter but I don't think he is aware that he is following me nor does he use it at all, I don't follow him back nor sent him anything. The end.

The years when Greg Kasavin was in charge, early to mid-2000's. I liked the review structure that didn't result in scores with a .5 interval, rather a .1 (ie Metroid Prime received a 9.7)

I liked the poster levels and the strange names we were given upon reaching that level. I remember the debates I used to have in System Wars and PC Discussion, enjoyed them.

I like the new Code of Conduct.

I miss the old SW. I guessed they banned a bunch of funny users and made some changes that took the fun out. I still try to play a part there but the replies are pretty dull.

@BranKetra: I thought that turned out to be a prank?

Sophia used to have a cool Video game music feature that was pretty cool. Also, JodyR's random giveaways on her blog were dope.

What happened to Dracula68? I didn't realize he was banned.

I remember videogameking... He used to write long blogs. That most people didn't really read so no one noticed when he said he was leaving the site. :P

We used to do stuff like horror story threads on Halloween, excessive amounts of rick roll/trolololo and trolling in good taste as long as it was funny as hell.

Before that everyone and their mom was a grammar Nazi. There are a few threads that were priceless like "Help, I burned my girlfriend."

That guy got his sister or girlfriend to hold a sign that says "I am AussiePet." and put it in the sig. I was so convinced it was a guy.

@dave123321: The new Code of Conduct is the real deal.

A lot of people have fond memories of my work hosting the 2013 OTcars. I still get messages from time to time telling me I should host again.

Yeah, I was pretty skeptical of it at first but now I see that it has its strengths. There were a lot of behaviour problems here before and it's good to see those kinds of things being addressed.

-in-depth investigations on whether or not a female poster is actually a female poster.
-Weekly PYP threads
-When half the posts in OT weren't stupid polls.
-UCBs/Unions
-Banned posters thread, people asking why, mods/admins saying they can't reveal why they were banned.
-banned posters who appear to not be banned anymore,
-Somewhat intelligent conversations.

Man I cannot believe Gamespot was a whole different breed many years ago then it is now. I been missing out a lot of stuff. I was lurking here back in 2011 before I join but I couldn't join back cause of school and didn't wanted to be distracted from my studies.

KarlB... I think that was his name. There were some cool unions. Back when I watched wrestling there was a UCB I used to hang out in and we would discuss RAW and Smackdown when they aired.

I miss the vitriolic discussions filled with sarcasm and people posting screenshots of past arguments to obliterate the person they were debating with. I guess that's still a thing, but not to the same extent it used to be. Everyday was a popcorn day.

Which is doing almost nothing to stop the racist, sexist and wholly derogatory comment section that Gamespot wanted so much to pump up over the forums.

Ahh GS was a lot of fun a couple of years ago, 2012 being my main year on the site.

I don't have a memory to pick in particular, just that I really enjoyed going on this site and the big sense of community here.

The staff of this site pushed away a bunch of forum traffic to replace it with a bunch of vitriolic, one-dimensional hatred.
