If they do it, I'm dropping out. Hell, I already am thinking about dropping out I hate school so much. If they do that, I'm never going back. I'd rather spend my 8 hours a day working.

I don't like the idea at all, but next year I will be a senior and by the time the plan has reached my school, if it really does happen, I will have graduated, so it does not really apply to me.

that is absolutely ridiculous

school 7 hours a day 5 days a week now is already insane, you REALLY dont need that much. you dont even remember it all. school should be like 3 days a week. or 5 a week at 4 hours a day.

Well I think it's a good idea....you americans have to do something to catch up with the rest of the world when it comes to education...and I think this plan will work, longer hours and not so rushed.....The high school I went too sucked, to be honest, but this plan would most likely work there...

The worse problem for it is sports and extra curricular activities. Plus, a lot of kids spend so much time in school in study hall, so why just give 'em more time to do nothing?

No, I think the States government revolves around money out of all of the countries. Canada shall be spared, but for how long, that I do not know.

What?

lol, sorry i should have quoted

the guy before said that he would go on strike and ditch school, which i was saying would totally happen with the masses. then the "would never happen" applied to extending the school day by 2 hours.

what?

This isn't going to solve anything. The American education system has been flawed and outdated due to the fact that it started during the industrial age of the 19th century to give kids a mediocre at best education just so that they would be sent to work at a factory or to go fight in wars. The problem with extending school time is that it will cause more negative motivation for kids and then the drop out rates will go up. The problem with grades is that it's not a measure of intelligence, it's just a measure of how much time you are willing to put into a subject that you probably won't even use for the rest of your life. Schools need to change, but not like they way they are trying to do now. I see this as leaving every child behind.

the only reason for doing this would be to keep kids off the street for longer, like a day care center.

Screw this. If they do pass it NJ will probably be next. Id move to VA instead. Already have a house there so it cant be to hard. But what can we possibly do in school for two more hours. The only classes that i can think of that could use the extra time for a purpose would be P.E. , woods, band, basicaly any none forced classes like math and english. Im already bored as hell in my classes and do none of my homework and still get Bs and A s.

I heard a little about this and how it was given a test run in a few schools. A lot of HS students do not get enough sleep and it would benefit them if school started later in the morning. I remember when I was in HS my day was so long and I was beat after a full day of studying and then playing sports. Regular HS have a day that ends around 2:30 PM or so, and it starts around 6:30AM, or at least here that is the schedule. That is brutal on a teenager because they are not awake that early in the morning and studies have shown that their brains do not start really processing information until later in the day.

Lol I know of at least one teacher who would likely quit because of this. My high school film and Psych 2 teacher use to complain that our classes were too long. She would always finish the lesson with a bunch of time left. If they were to make the day longer, my guess is she might pick up those offers from the universities....

When the kids drop out, there will be a special force to hunt them down and return them to jail, in this case, prison. They're called social workers and stoon pigeons. They say they're trying help but it's all a lie.

apparently theres a "nation-wide" plan for extending school days 2 hours longer. they think that by doing this, lessons will be less rushed and students will have more time to learn stuff better. well theyre considering it here in massachusetts and atleast one school is already trying it. i dont know about you guys but i have the rest of my life to work an 8 hour job (if i dont start my own company somehow), i dont need to spend 8 hours in school. i'm doing just fine and im in some honors classes too. if kids need extra help, its their responsibility to stay after school for help or they fail. whats going to happen to after school sports if we're not going to get out of school until the sun starts to go down?

go ahead and share your opinions on this idea that apparently is going to happen to all of america. /rant

Yeah..that school that extended it for 2 hours is right near my house....and they also made it a rule they had to wear uniforms...its a public school.... they shouldnt do that at all...school is already wayyy to long. Do these people honestly believe that classes begin right on the bel and dont stop until the bell rings?? Im going to say 65% of some of my classes is just fooling around because we dont have anything else to do time...

I start school at 8:35am and get out at 3:35pm. A 2 hour practice gets me home around 6 or 6:15. for the next 3-4 hours I'm at work or doing my homework....and they are talking about adding 2 hours to the school day? I already have almost no life as it is!

I completely agree. my classes are 1 hour long. I'd say that a little over 30 minutes over that is actually spent "learning."

Our public school systems need to spend their money on better, more relavent curriculum.

I mean, there are kids who make straight As in highschool, and when they get out they can't even balance a checkbook or change a tire...

That's ****ing retarded. School takes away the time kids can be living their lives, and now then intend to take more away? I'd drop out.
