I just built a PC to integrate into my theater system that holds all my music on a 750GB hard drive, with my HDTV as the monitor, a premium sound card feeding sound to my receiver, dual core processor, 2GB ram, etc... and Linux Mint OS, all for well under $500 total. Beat that, Apple.

I wouldn't dislike Apple so much if they (legally) allowed their OS to operate on more hardware.

They don't even make their own CPUs anymore, so there is no non-profit driven reason for this.

If Microsoft all of a sudden decided to sell its OS solely on pre-configured MS machines, then I can guarantee that antitrust lawsuits would be filed by countries around the world.

Pc of course. macs are just the expensive Vtechs of the computer world :P j/k. (seriously i did say that once to a mac fan and he nearly killed me...and i diserved it :P) seriously though i do 3 things on a PC. play games, develop software and browse dinternet. a mac is pretty useless for 2 of those things. i use linux for development mind (gotta love VMs :) ) and windows for games. i would like to switch to linux 100% but its also not great for games.

Hell yes! Welcome back :D

*ahem* Anyways, I prefer PC. You get better performance for cheaper, can customize it anyway you want, wide variety of games, and I'm simply more familiar with them.

I like my iPhone and wouldn't take any other phone to replace it right now, but for home stuff, I love my PC. I think Windows 7 is a great OS. It converted me back to PCs. OSX is alright, but I run into so many weird issues with my work Mac that I don't really see the upside of owning one.

PC, Macs are overrated, expensive pieces of out of date hardware. I still feel bad for a friend of mine who paid $3000 for a Mac that was weaker than my PC which cost half as much. Iantheone
this. except it was my brother that spent 1500 and i spent 750 on a custom build twice as good.

This is incorrect.

Then explain why a Mac can start up and run programs WAY faster than a PC.

because illiterate computer users always like hitting the next key before reading what other crapware gets installed. If you don't take care of your computer (mac or pc) they will slow down.

From an admin point of view, the Darwin system layout is kinda foreign to me. Little things like the hard drives/partitions not being under /dev/{sda,sda1...} confuses the hell out of me.

The GUI doesn't really impress me either. The dock, while being a much better idea than the Windows Start menu, isn't ideal for me. Something like KDE's Kickoff menu would work best for me.

That being said, I wouldn't call OSX a bad operating system, it's just weird to me.

Is the dock really that different from Windows taskbar? Also there're plenty of docks you can get for Windows that are better than the one used in OSX.

Macs are weaker than PCs only because their software doesn't require as much power. They're way more efficient, so why put the extra money into features that would be overkill?

I don't follow. The guy you quoted said he has a PC which cost 1500$ and is stronger than a friend's Mac which cost 3000$. Who here spent the extra money on features that would be overkill?

Lets see I could use an overpriced pile of Cow Turd shoved in an aluminum case and branded with an apple sticker. Or use a self assembled PC with top of the line parts, for much cheaper than previously mention pile of Cow turd.. That is a really tough decision that I may have to think long and hard abou.. PC!

Let's remember to not troll the fans of Macs or PCs in this thread. It is ok to talk smack about the products or companies involved, but don't target the people that own them.

I was a PC/Ubuntu enthusiast, but just recently got a Mac. Best thing that ever happened to me! It's just so great, everything is nice on the eyes, response is snappy, there are programs for everything, etc. It just made me see that PCs are a thing of the past.
