I got a Mac about five months ago and I swear you couldn't pay me to switch back to PC! What's everybody else's opinion?

PC all the way. I even finally got a droid phone today after 2 iPhones. I personally will never own another Apple product again.

After using both, i like both but prefer PC because im more familiar with the environment but if you use/do a lot of software applications(photoshop, final cut), it is much better than a PC.

PC, Macs are overrated, expensive pieces of out of date hardware. I still feel bad for a friend of mine who paid $3000 for a Mac that was weaker than my PC which cost half as much.

Macs are weaker than PCs only because their software doesn't require as much power. They're way more efficient, so why put the extra money into features that would be overkill?

I like them both - Windows for all my serious work such as working a project or gaming, but I have a MacBook Pro for those basic day-to-day stuff like email and web browsing. They both have their pluses and minuses, this whole PC vs Mac war is just stupid.

As a software developer, I prefer Linux/PC. As a computer enthusiast, I prefer PC. As a computer user, I prefer PC. As a general human being, I prefer PC. I like knowing that a piece of software will work and I don't have to worry about it not being compatible. I also like being able to replace a broken part without having to rebuy an new computer or send in a my entire one.

I'd take Windows over OSX any day.

Mostly because of the games I like playing. The hardware is also wickedly over priced (double to even triple the cost of what you can get in a Windows machine).

Apple only has control over their software. They can't dictate how companies design their software, but by God that doesn't stop them from trying. Apple is also very good at hiding inefficiencies. "We won't support FLASH on the iPhone" is Apple speak for "The iPhone sucks at using FLASH."

Apparently SOMETHING in the Mac runs a lot more efficiently. Otherwise it wouldn't be able to do so many graphics projects that would take FOREVER on a PC.

Macs don't turn off. They go into a low-power state, and they save the image of the memory so everything can be put brought back faster. Again, we're back at the "hiding" part. None of that has anything to do with how well each OS handles multitasking. Admittedly, Windows could use this feature. The closest thing it has it "lock" and "hibernate". "Lock" doesn't really put the computer into a low power mode. "Hibernate" never works for me, and it's also a complete shutdown rather than low-power so I still have to go through the BIOS. Also I'm willing to be you have a few dozen applications starting up in Windows while your Mac is pretty clean.

Not really from what I've seen in my personal experience. I know it's not exactly Photoshop, but I know that I have had a LOT fewer problems with pasting large images into a PowerPoint on my Mac whereas the PC had to stop and "think" for a few seconds instead of just pasting it in there. I saved so much time building that presentation!

Dare I ask what hardware the PC was running? And what Mac were you using (ie. Mac Book, Mac Book Pro, iMac, or Mac Pro). If you can't answer these than your comparison is invalid.

Photoshop was designed for Macs. Thus, it's more optimized for Macs. That is an advantage Macs have which is why a lot of graphic designers use them (initially). However, that's not a benefit to the Mac itself. Photoshop could easily work well on a PC if it was optimized for the PC. Also, there's the very real, (and highly likely) option that your PC sucks. If you're PC has half the memory and half the processing power, then it's going to be slower. Likewise, if you're Mac is half the power as a PC, it's going to be slower.

You realize the MacBook Pro has a much quicker processor (which drives most of Photoshop's tasks) and was probably at least twice as expensive as the Inspiron. RAM alone means absolutely nothing.

i use my macbook pro for my freelance graphic design/illustration projects and for surfing > less chance of viruses. ive been a windows user since i was 9, and now im 22. lol. i definitely like my mac since it's consistently faster, when speaking generally over time. whereas the registry system for windows - if you put in more programs, more chance of getting slower over time. HOWEVER, i am going to buy a new pc for gaming next week (although my brother in the other room has a win 7 gaming pc). i prefer pc's for gaming, and since this is a gaming website after all, chances are, pc's will win here. on the other hand, macs most usually win in random graphic design forums (which i researched about before i made my macbook pro purchase). go figure people, eh. i don't prefer a particular system at all, because i need both and i happen to have both. to each his own i guess. what i just dislike is when many mac users act like theyre elite or something? and then when pc users diss other QUIET mac users for being mac users.

Seriously dude, you have no idea what you are talking about

You can have a really slow Mac, or a really slow PC. You can also have a really fast Mac and a really fast PC. This is not entirely caused by the differences in software.

More or less, what matters is the hardware of the system (the biggest ones for doing basic tasks are RAM, hard drive speed, and CPU). The speed of a system is also affected by things like viruses, spyware, and background tasks. The hard drive could also be very fragmented, causing slower read and write speeds to it.

A PC is more susceptible to viruses as there are not many Mac viruses that are out there, but they are still there.

The most likely reason that your PC running windows 7 is running crappily is either because it has bad hardware, or you simply did not take good care of it. Being honest, you need to take a little bit of extra effort to keep a Windows sytem clean of problems, but it is worth it imo. This is especially true for people like me, who want a lot out of their hard ware for as low of a price as possible. Macs are also not compatible with most of the personal computer based video games out there, which is a major downside for me.

Still, Macs are definitely a viable choice for personal computing. You pay a premium for the brand though (there are no real benefits), and I don't really like that.

And Linux uses even less, whats your point? Also, that doesnt quite make sense that you would pay MORE for weaker hardware when you dont need it.

Don't care that much w/e I'm using lol. I can use pretty much every OS without whining too much... except OpenBSD. I will whine a lot if you make me use that on a daily base.

I mean I probably would prefer OSX on a laptop, due to awesome battery life... I use Ubuntu/Windows on my laptop, and while I am mostly in Ubuntu, the battery life is arse.

[QUOTE="JigglyWiggly_"]Don't care that much w/e I'm using lol. I can use pretty much every OS without whining too much... except OpenBSD. I will whine a lot if you make me use that on a daily base.

Honestly, the only thing that annoys me more than elitist Mac users are elitist OpenBSD users. It's like people will use more difficult to operate software just so they can feel smarter about it.

That describes... actually no it doesn't I would never ever use OpenBSD on a daily use... I used to do that with FreeBSD on my laptop, though FreeBSD is much more friendly than OpenBSD.

Also I'm willing to be you have a few dozen applications starting up in Windows while your Mac is pretty clean.cd_rom

The Sleep Mode in Vista (my laptop) and Win 7 (my gaming PC) works perfectly fine here. When in hibernate mode, everything looks powered off: lights, fans, drives, all the LED lights. The PC looks like it's turned off. Yet if I move the mouse, the PC resumes right where it was within a couple of seconds.

I rarely turn off my computers nowadays, preferring to keep them in Sleep Mode.

Seeing how I'm a PC gamer and don't like being overcharged, PC by far.

[QUOTE="TicTac8745"]I like them both - Windows for all my serious work such as working a project or gaming, but I have a MacBook Pro for those basic day-to-day stuff like email and web browsing. They both have their pluses and minuses, this whole PC vs Mac war is just stupid. jam19911000
My Mac is VERY handy for all the multi-tasking that I have to do in school (hence, everyday tasks). If I tried to run as many programs on a PC, it'd blow up!

Are you kidding me?. I was using my friends mac the other day, and he had multiple things open. It was very slow.

I have a nice notebook with an i5 processor. I can have many things open, and it'll still run fine.
