Why does it matter if the person is black or white? does it somehow make you feel better if when someone who's successful just happens to have the same colour skin as you? Because, whether you like to admit it or not, your race is a part of you, however small, in today's society. It shapes your experiences and having pride in yourself, totally and completely, is having pride in every aspect of yourself. If you're a black male from Chicago and you're proud of yourself and your life, you're proud of being black, of being male, of being an American, of where you live as much as you are proud of the things you've done. They're all contributing factors.[QUOTE="Capitan_Kid"][QUOTE="toast_burner"]Thats not true. History is history regardless of race. The other 11 months aren't exclusive to white people.

A lot of the people who bash this month truly could not understand it due to those social circumstances. Im not saying he cant appreciate it or celebrate it but when youre african american you have a different type of feeling towards it.

Also why isn't there a White Entertainment Television
JML897
White Entertainment Television = ABC/NBC/FOX/CBS
BET is owned by viacomAnd I disagree on schools teaching less about African Americans if there wasn't a black history month.
Schools have a set curriculum and a short amount of time to teach it
They mainly focus on the big events of America and some of AA accomplishments.
It's just like World History
No time to teach everything about the greeks so you're just going to have to research on your own.

And of course a race was fighting for their rights to be as equal as another race of people.
But what it all comes down to is just a battle of Good Vs Evil.
A group of people fighting against tyranny. This is something every single human being can relate to, regardless of race.
And about people saying "Oh, it's a time to learn more about frequently forgotten history."
If you've waited 336 days to educate yourself on some history, then you my friend need to read more.
The best thing to do to commemorate Black History Month, if you agree with that sort of thing, is to be the best possible citizen you can
Love and cherish everything you have.
You will be doing a service to those who have suffered by living life to the fullest and being yourself.
I believe it was the great Zora Neale Hurston who said
"But I am not tragically colored. There is no great sorrow dammed up in my soul, nor lurking behind my eyes. I do not mind at all. I do not belong to the sobbing school of Negrohood who hold that nature somehow has given them a lowdown dirty deal and whose feelings are all but about it. Even in the helter-skelter skirmish that is my life, I have seen that the world is to the strong regardless of a little pigmentation more of less. No, I do not weep at the world--I am too busy sharpening my oyster knife."
Not enough time to teach all of Black History At my old high school, we had classes devoted to African American studies. Why don't they just incorporate black history into history classes?

a white kid in my class 4-5 years ago was talking about how black history month is one of the most pointless things in the world and how it doesn't deserve even the shortest month, all the black kids got mad. was funny.themagicbum9720
Tell him that white people do not deserve history unless maybe they share a month with criminal history month.
I am white and this is what I would say, I am glad that we have a month to remember the struggles of a persecuted group and what they contributed to our society.

White people do have a history month
It's called Irish-American history month
Asian history month, Hispanic History month, Jewish History month, Black history month, Native american history month etc etc
All these heritage months just prove that all races go through struggle, So why do we designate specific months
I don't know where to begin! Should I date a black woman, make a new secret hand shake with an African American male, or should I just reminisce on how far the race has come as a whole?
