Lol hockey :P Call me when college ball is back!
So I may have started Bravely Default today during an online training module that I only needed to slightly attend to... I'm gonna love this game! It oozes old school FF, it looks beautiful, it's got a cliche JRPG story... Heaven
And Haz, congrats on the Hockey games. I missed it but am glad I did!
Spring Training has started so I'm jacked.
Cranky Kong has been tweeting from Nintendo of America's Twitter account. This has been by far the funniest tweet and immediately made me think of NeoGAF.
This one was better. Someone asked how old Cranky is, and he replied:
Old enough to remember when falling in a pit in a platformer was called “lack of skill” and not “cheap.”
The Gamespot reviewer is explicitly guilty of this. :D
If twitter members were replaced by a bunch of grumpy old monkeys, I would definitely create an account over there for the sheer entertainment of it all.
Those tweets are awesome!
Only a mod for a few days and Randolph already has admirers. =P
Not the kind of admirer I want. >.>
It's ok, being a mod will give you enemies that will carry far from where you're working.
Think of it as a very disturbing perk
Sooo.... Space Jam is getting a sequel, starring LeBron James.
Probably the worst news I've heard today.
@Randolph: What happened?

If YOU were a mod, yes. Everyone already hates you, so either being a mod wouldn't be any different, or somehow everyone would hate you even more.
Or for some reason that could never be explained, everyone would suddenly love you.
Actually, you would quickly ban everyone and it'd just be you and TheRealJaysonguy posting to each other, one degrading comment and polite retort after another.
@JordanElek: Some fellow didn't like having his thread locked for being system wars stuff, saw fit to make a fuss about it in two separate thread, one of which has my name in the title "randolph the moderate". Well, better a moderate than an extremist, I guess. O.o
Not going to lie. I will watch Space Jam 2 in theatres. King James is an amazing athlete, it is only fitting that he be in the sequel, would like an MJ cameo.
On a random note, does anyone else here feel like the Sonic racing games have surpassed the Mario Kart games as of late..? The speed, track design, vibrant colors and activity, and weapons just seem so much more entertaining and fresh. Maybe MK8 will change that, but I honestly think I'd put MK as the #2 kart racer today.
Just finished Wind Waker HD. I still say the credits theme is the best piece of video game music ever, more so when you're in the moment, having just saved the world, watching the highlights of your adventure float by.
Tropical Freeze looks and sounds absolutely amazing but I am just plain bad. :P
Platformers are definitely my biggest weakness in gaming; I was always more into RPG's as a kid. Also never played a DK game before and this is all new. Practice makes perfect I guess.

I've said it too
Sonic has the same racing (which is better) and course creation as Mario Kart.
Where it surpasses Mario Kart is the vehicular combat. Mario Kart has two flavors of combat.
1. When I activate this all Hell is going to break loose somewhere on the track.
2. When I activate this I've got an overpowering advantage to disable my opponent.
Sonic has a real attack/block/combo system that allows players to fight on even ground and rewards players for being good at it.
Also I do think the tracks are livelier without distracting from what's going on during the race.
@Jaysonguy: They lost 5-0 against Finland in the bronze medal game.
Wait, so they still have the same playoff format from the 70's?
I did not know that
The gold and bronze medals are the only ones winning, to miss out on a bronze isn't good
@Jaysonguy: Sometimes the scoring seems so subjective. Jason Brown missed out on a bronze with a nearly flawless performance, yet the guy from Japan fell twice and scored super high. I will never understand figure skating scoring.

I refuse to play MK games because they refuse to listen to reason about the inherent flaws of the entire idea behind the blue shell.

Oh don't even get me started on the figure skating mess
That criteria they have is nonsense! So many people are getting robbed.
Ha, I just had two people move into my town this week and I sent one a welcome letter with a gift and they sent me a letter back thanking me for the lovely welcome letter, lol.

I'm not familiar with what it was in the 70s, but basically the two losers from the semi-finals face each other for bronze and the two winners from the semi's face each other in the finals for Gold.
I heard this year that Yuna Kim from South Korea got robbed from women's figure skating, so says everyone. I never watched it, but my gf is Korean was was pretty upset lol.

That is pretty neat!
Those little guys are getting smarter!
I was a bit surprised myself. i'm gonna see if I can get a pic of it, as I don't think that has ever happened to me before.
Clearly team USA did not want to be in that game... Oh well.
I thought the Russian chick beat Yuna Kim fairly. Yuna played it too safe and the Russian did some hard stuff during the bonus time. Kind of a funny scoring system but they all get that chance... Look at me talking figure skating... Never thought I'd see the day!
@roboccs: No, I was just annoyed at how often enemies would pop up while I was in dungeons. I've never played any of the Final Fantasy games (nor many traditional JRPGs). A lot of this is basically new to me, especially how often you run into enemies, so I cut it in half from the default setting and now it's kind of screwed me over for the first big boss of the game.
@_hazbro_: If you're not feeling comfortable in most battles outside of a dungeon, don't even bother going in yet. The dungeons in Bravely Default are really short and simple for a JRPG, but they also don't let you do a full recovery before the boss like some JRPGs do, so you really need to be strong to tackle them efficiently.
Or you could turn battles off and run back to town every time you almost die in a dungeon, but that doesn't seem like much fun.

That's what I did earlier on, ran back into the closest town to the inn and then ran back into the dungeon and reset the encounter rate.
I stopped watching the hockey game in the 3rd... Canada was dominating and I had some other stuff to do. But I'll say congrats to you Canadian fans in here, it's still your sport!
I'm just loving Zelda right now. The exploring is fun and I love how smooth the gameplay is. I was kind of sketchy (no pun intended) on the art mechanic when I first saw it but I'm liking so far how it's implemented.
The ALttP style Zelda game just suits me. It's probably why I liked ALttP and Minish cap so much. ALBW seems right up to par with those. Once I get some eshop monies I'll probably try out Links Awakening on the VC next.
@JordanElek: I was leaning towards Awakening only because it was the first one to come out of huge portables and I remember it being previewed in Nintendo Power when I was young and had a subscription :P
If I remember it was supposedly good. Can anyone confirm?
Got to world 5 in Tropical Freeze and played a good chunk of WInd Waker HD. Not a bad weekend! :D
I'm at the infamous Triforce Quest now. I never played the original but the updated version doesn't seem as bad. At least you're visiting different areas and doing different things. Can't say the same thing for late-game Bravely Default. ;)
Got Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Assassin's Creed Revelations over the weekend. Not sure how if I can play RSV2 because I have the first one and I can't get it working on my windows 8.1 laptop. Tried running Virtual Machine for XP compatibility but getting the applications running on it is a royal pain.
I have an XP at home (1000+ miles away) but the graphics card is only a ATI Radeon 9550, just shy at the minimum specs being requirement being X1600. If I adjust all settings to minimum, it may work, but if it doesn't I'm not sure how I'm going to play Rainbow Six Vegas 1 or 2.
@moltenix: In the original Triforce hunt, all of the pieces had a chart that needed to be deciphered then had to be salvaged from the sea. They removed five of those charts and replaced them with the Triforce pieces themselves.
I remember having to grind for rupees on at least a couple of my playthroughs of the original in order to pay for all of that, and I don't think I would've had enough in Wind Waker HD if I had had to pay for all eight charts.
I have fond memories of the WW triforce part. It was tedious but I didn't mind it that much.
I had my GC in college and it was the end of fall semester. All my roommates went home for Christmas and I was leaving later the next day. So I fired up WW and had my longest game session ever. I think I played the game non-stop from 11pm to 5am and that session included to triforce hunt. I loved that game.
There have been times in recent years playing Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Xenoblade, and Tales of Symphonia to name a few, where I cut my playing time short after a few hours but could've kept going for a long time... I bet I would've matched my WW "marathon"... Curse you adulthood responsibility >:(
My weekend consisted of playing Bravely Default between doing actual things. I got to the beginning of Chapter 2 now. It made me realize I really prefer portable gaming to console gaming because I'm rarely at home. I work 5 days a week so I play my 3DS on my commute, when I'm at home I barely take the time to play games to unwind, though I had a good thing going playing Wind Waker HD for an hour or so when I got home. Might try to do that this week.
@_hazbro_: I hear you Haz. Portable gaming has given me a lot more quality game time the past year... I include off tv play on the WiiU pad in there as well. Many times where I could not play because the tv was occupied or if I felt bad hogging the tv, the WiiU has given me the opportunity to play. This is another reason I opted to buy the 3DS. Not to mention, portable gaming has come a long way over the years. Overall game quality rivals that of the consoles in a lot of respects.
With all this talk about portables, what do you guys think of the Vita? Anybody have one?
In general, i'm not too crazy about the Vita lineup compared to 3DS. It's retail presence seems to be just as bad as Wii U, if not worse. I was just thinking it'd be nice to catch up on some RPGs that came out on PSP (never owned one). That and all the free PS+ games that i've collected. PS4 remote play would also be a plus.
The memory card situation is killing it for me though; with PS+ and PSP downloads, I would need at least a 32GB card. It's funny how I have a 32GB card in my 3DS but rarely download games whereas I would love to have an all-digital Vita but the price on memory is too prohibitive.

I prefer the Vita over the 3DS, better titles up and down
Memory card situation is awful, if they're not on sale they're amazingly overpriced.
The games are terrific though. As I told roboc in here a while back the 3DS plays it safe while the Vita gives a lot of games that you wont see anywhere else like Trigger Happy (which is amazing and I need to throw a review up once my redesign is done) and then quality titles like Disgaea that are even better than the console versions.
Then like you said you have the PS4 remote play which is pretty great for the most part, PSP titles, and then PS+ rentals.
