Does anyone really think that SSBM is better than Brawl? I've seen plenty of praise for Brawl and plenty of hate on it recently, but I'm hoping these people are educated in saying that Melee is better, because I've went back and played Melee, and well, it isn't as enamoring as I remember it being, the main menu, the sound, and unfortunately I have to go there, the graphics are no where near as good as Brawl, yes I understand that it's been slowed down a bit, which, IMHO is all for the better when your friends used players like Fox day in and day out. Now, before I get flamed, I LOVE Melee I'm just trying to make a point that it's time for the game to die and pass the torch to a newer, better, more polished game, more trophies, levels, characters, options, and maybe, just maybe more replayability.

Photobucket

I'm a man who's played me a lot of Melee, this is just 1/5 of the data that is divvied up between my friends that all had a Melee save game of their own

Photobucket

The trophy quality is just one huge leap that Brawl has made.

I haven't played Melee or the N64 one but I really enjoyed Brawl a lot. The other two versions seem to be like Brawl with less content.

I didn't actually own Melee but, from what I played of it, I can safely say I preferred Brawl. I was a huge fan of the N64 game, so I actually prefer that they've slowed it down for Brawl.

I haven't played brawl yet so I can't make an informed decision. But I kind of had a similar problem with the speed of Melee, my best friend loved to use Sheik, and I used Link, so he would always beat me because he was so much faster.

Online play alone makes Brawl better. The Stage Builder is a major plus, too.

Sure, Brawl's character roster could have been better, but there's no question the game is an improvement over Melee.

in terms of depht and competitveness, melee kicks brawl in the balls. also, classic and break the targets we're much better in melee

other than that, brawl's got everything else

I'm gonna say Brawl, despite the fact that I played Melee a lot more. I don't know what it was but I was more addicted to Melee. Maybe it was because I was like 13 when I was playing it, or maybe the jump from N64 graphics to Gamecube graphics were so wide.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - Melee is better. Brawl hasn't given me what Melee did and I don't think it ever will. The techniques we know now will probably be the same ones we're using in five years.

I'm also gonna have to go with Brawl. That being said though, Melee will always hold a special place in my heart. When I play Melee, I get a huge sense of nostalgia. I prefer Melee's menu color scheme and music to Brawl's also. That music that would play whenever I fired up Melee back in the GC days would always pump me up. Brawl is still overall much better though. I would've picked different new characters too. I really wanted to see another version of Mario such as Paper Mario for instance.

In my opinion I think that Brawl is better and I guess that's the main goal when you're making a sequel to a game, if it isn't better than it's predecessor then the game is a failure overall. Staring with the fact that Brawl has a story and on-line modes which Melee lacked that already tips the scale towards Brawl. In my opinion the menu looks nicer on Brawl than in Melee (Also the think with Melee"s menu's where you would move the C-stick and for no real reason the camera would move which was really useless) and although I'm not sure I do believe that Brawl has more playable characters than Melee and they even reached out of Nintendo games to bring Snake over and at least in Brawl not every unlockable character was a copy of an existing character as it seemed in Melee. (But wolf, falco, fox were very similar in brawl and they weren't the only ones with similar moves) The Stage Builder, Stickers and extremely customizable brawls in Multiplayer were a bonus and in the end I think that Brawl successfully topped the bar for the next SSB game to come. I still love both of them though and I'll still take a look every so often to one of the most memorable games on the Gamecube according to myself.

I love Brawl but to say I like it more than N64 version is hard just cause it introduced me to the series and that game is why i bought an N64. So I'd say they are tied.

It's only "technically" better, much like Twilight Princess is "technically" better than Ocarina of Time.I'm pretty sure only a small amount of people on this site would take Twilight Princess over Ocarina of Time.

I don't understand how can Melee be better than Brawl? Brawl isexactlysame but added LOT more stuff, like better graphics, story mode, characters, and lot more modes! Some characters that is removed in Brawl is a disappointment to some but they replaced them with awesome character! Like Roy replaced with Ike. Ike>Roy big time!

Admittedly I don't agree with you a lot of the time, but this I agree whole-heartedly, an A- Fox player would beat an A+ Link player in Melee any day of the week, luck just plays a much bigger role in Brawl (if you're playing with all the items on anyway).

Brawl.

I can understand if people like Melee more since Brawl did pretty nothing to change the gameplay, but the gameplay was already pretty good. Brawl tweaked it a little, added more characters and stages and got a freakin awsome soundtrack.

Thats good enough to make it better than Melee to me.

But I liked the original more than both.

Melee is the most well-rounded, but Brawl is also immensly entertaining. In my book, Brawl's nostalgia, insanely powerful new characters, and nearly never-gets-old gameplay puts it just one notch below Melee. I didn't appreciate the gimmicks like the Final Smash Ball, Dragoon, and Assist Trophies that Brawl introduces, nor its axing of awesome characters like Dr. Mario, nor its extensive adventure mode. But still, all three Super Smash Bros. games are nearly equally venerable. But the character, stages, gameplay, and game structure of Melee suit my tastes the best of the three.

But that's just me...

meanwhile there are alot of aspects that OOT still trumps TP in.

what would you rather have. Fast gameplay speed where only a small handful of the characters are actually good while everyone else is useless...or slightly slower gameplay speed where most of the characters have an equal chance against each other with a few exceptions.

well I have to say brawl is better cause it's the updated version but what happened if you took away the story, stage builder, online play, you know what all the extra's in the game. Just classic and vs, I would have to go with melee. Look at it that way. Also SONIC SHOULD DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Sadly , I have to disagree . Melee is too fast-paced with top tier characters . At least now in Brawl , all characters are equal .

As the games currently are,I'd take the faster gameplay speed of Melee, which is a lot more fun to me than the slower pace.Brawl is balanced to near perfection, but they took out part of the fun in the process,in my opinion, and that really isn't a good trade-off.

I wish they could have sped up the pace a bit closer to Melee's pace, yet still have the near-perfect amount of balance that Brawl currently has.It might or might not be possible, but I would have liked to see it happen.

Brawl, in my opinion, destroys Melee in every aspect. Of course, that's what a good sequal is supposed to do. I think the fighting, graphics, and overall gameplay is very fluid and well balanced. It just feels right.
