Would you ever STOP gaming, like COMPLETELY because your g/f b/f wanted you too? Reasons being, they think that it's childish and lazy.

I can't see myself ever giving it up completely, much less date someone who didn't at least have an appreciation for gaming. I do play games less now than I used to, and rarely if ever pick games over times to go out with friends. Gaming with a GF though... that would be fun.

I have a GF who plays videogames and it's AWESOME :D

It's fantastic to know that all I ever have to do to get her a gift, is buy two copies of a game I already want!

So, no, to answer your question, no I wouldn't.

FrankieCakes

No. FrankieCakes, anyone who tells you that video games are "childish and lazy" is simply out of touch with modern society. Video games are a form of entertainment and are not inherently any more childish than film, TV, books, etc. Playing them makes you no lazier than if you watched TV or surfed the Web.

Just my two cents.

No, my fiance is fine with my favorite hobby :)

She even gets in on it by buying me games as gifts :)

No way. I write for an up-and-coming (though still E3-permitted!) page, and writing games journalism is something I plan on doing with my life.

Heh, my gf was quite anti-game when we first met. Soon sorted that out! I'm now playing through the Reach campaign in co-op with her!

Ask them why they think it's childish and lazy. Take note of the long pause followed by random thoughts.

i would only quit gaming on my own accord and my fiance knows that, she supports my hobbies. ANY GOOD GF/BF would NOT ask you to give up a hobby that means something to you

Short answer: No.

Long answer: I've been playing video games since I was 4 years old. I'm 28 now. I don't even think I could start dating someone with that sort of narrow attitude about gaming. I would be hard pressed to find anyone under the age of 40 that doesn't play video games as least casually these days. few I have met always tended to be more immature and petty than the "childish and lazy" gamers they like to trash talk.

Nope, if they can't handle that I sometimes want to sit down an play a game because I find that fun then that's their problem.

If I had a girlfriend, and if she decided to make our relationship contingent on my not playing video games anymore, then that would be the end of our relationship. :P

i would say laziness depends more on the player. your 'BF' or 'GF' can just button mash while looking out the window, or they can concentrate and play properly. and childish? that's just a really bad stereotype. since most people don't really say what they mean anymore, words like 'childish' and 'mature' are often utterly meaningless and lazily applied. i think games can help improve your brain, or melt it depending on what you play and how you play.. but already, games are more active than TV because it's all about problem-solving and stuff.

I wouldn't change who I am just to please a partner; that would be a deal breaker no matter how attractive she might be in other respects. My wife isn't a gamer, but she at least respects the fact that it's one of my hobbies and a method of relaxing.

Yeah, asking me to stop playing games because it's childish and lazy would definitely be grounds for a break up, hands down. Especially considering that's what I'm going to school for. ...Well, going to school to learn to develop games, not to learn how to play them XD

Nah, she'd have to be immature to even think in such ways, so I'd say she's not worth it. Also, you shouldn't change yourself for your partner unless it's something bad and video games aren't bad.

My partner thinks I'm chilidsh and lazy? Hm well it's true. Telling me to stop gaming is not going to change my nature.

COMPLETELY stopping is not an option for me. Cutting back though, sure I'd do it for him. But he's got to reduce whatever obsessive hobby's he's into , that I find even a remote dislike, in return.

How hot is the girl? Like superhot? Then yeah I totally would quit. Screw you losers :PGodModeEnabled

I'd call them wrong and would explain to the best of my ability why video gaming is just as equal as a medium as literature and film, simply in different ways. I have no interest in getting a gf, though.

Well seeing as I plan on going into game design as a career I would probably laugh my ass off. If I saw that she was serious I wouldn't even respond. I would just end the relationship on the spot. (But if she had a good reason I would have no problem giving upthe hobby part. I can't think of a good reason though)

Nope. If my gf told me to give up gaming or she'd dump me, I'd say that's too bad. I love gaming, it's a hobby, if she doesn't like that, that's her problem, not mine. Same with Anime.

No. Gaming is not childish. When it first started video games were some what of a toy. No longer is this true. Gaming has evolved into the biggest media entertainment format. Not only is it on the same level as books, music, and movies, but it also out sales those forms of media. To say games are only for kids would be like saying music is only for teens.

Never. Its my hobby. I don't see why anyone would give up something they enjoy just for the sake of a relationship. If that's the case, your in a relationship for all the wrong reasons. It isn't supposed to completely change who you are, just help you grow into a better, more loving and caring person.

If one day my girlfriend told me "give up gaming" I'd firstly wonder why (because she likes gaming as well, not nearly as much as I, but is becoming more interested in it), and then tell her "no." If she has a problem with that, then I don't see why we need to stay together. Sure, there are a lot of things I'd do for my girlfriend... but giving up something I've been doing practically my entire life and enjoy very much? Hell no. It would be like her telling me to give up reading... or the academic study of religion.

Nope. If I'm with someone who wants me to change that much, then I'm with the wrong person. It's not even games specifically...if they want you to cut out ANYTHING that you're interested in, they're asking too much and you're probably incompatible.
