This just cracked me up

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270025905189&fromMakeTrack=true

..think someone should explain to this poor person exactly what an 'Odeyssey' is and that it wasn't made by 'ATTARI'? :)

Sad part is he/she might actually have some good games in there....but I dont think I'm brave enough to check it out :)

I'd bid on it if not for the "0" transactions history of the seller.

he's selling ALL his 80's and 90's stuff, ignorance aside, I think the seller is a semi-nerd who grew up or the spouse/mother of a nerd who passed away...

I'm actually on an Odyssey kick atm...if not for the rating and for the fact even I couldnt have told what s/he was selling with the Odyssey I might have bid as well....Munchkin Billards anyone? :)

I actually went and did it...I bought an Odyssey2.  I thought I'd just steal the one I had growing up from my parents garage, but they cant find it. :(  So.....I found one that looks to be in good shape from ebay, I hope to get it this week sometime.  I picked up some games from another seller and those have already arrived...now I'm just waiting on the console itself.  I've just had this crazy urge to play Monkeyshines and Quest for the Rings lately....must be entering my 2nd childhood again....for like the millionth time... :)

Ahh, the Odyessey2, a very durable system :) I need to check mine out again, I repaired it a while back (minor damage to the end of the adapter cord, that goes into the system).

Here's another good one. I was intrigued by the title, at least. After looking it over, I sent this question:

 Hi,

Am I reading this correctly? Are you countng every game on a compilation disc as an individual title? How many actual PS2 games are part of this auction?

Here's the seller's response.

there are a total of 83 games the atari games are on 1 disk they are complete games. there are a total of 2 disk. There are 83 games on the 2 disk they are not demos they are complete games. thanks I am very happy with mine. Thanks so much for asking

Yes, the auction has gone sour; nice Chapelle allusion there.  This falls under the same kind of time-wasting pseudo-fraud as auctions with descriptors like "complete and mint" where further reading and a look at the photos reveals that neither is true.

??? :P

It made little sense to me.  Based upon the seller's assertion that the Atari compilation is legitimately 82 games, I doubt that the seller is a whiz at anything, sentence construction included.

Hey, this just gave me a great idea! Does this mean I can include all the titles in my compilation discs as separate games in my collection!?

(Totally just kidding here, by the way. :D)

Edit: OMG, it gets even worseHere's an ebay auction priced over two hundred dollars for a PS2 that says it includes 30 games.  But guess what, they're all demos!

Nice. This seller does the same thing as the last one--listing nominal components of the PS2 (like controller ports) as selling points. Be careful of all those sub-standard PS2s on the market that don't include an A/V Multi-out.

Here's a seller with exquisite taste. If you sort the items by "Highest Price First" you'll see just how exquisite.

While I admire his collection, the pricing is inflated -- Wario Woods for $250, Power Puff N64 for $95? What do you think his deal is? It doesn't look like a scam.

I'll bet his wife/gf/husband/bf/mom/dad/land lord or whatever said to sell all his games so he listed them at prices no one would ever pay... a ton of rares there though...

I love part of their sales line: "great for kids & girlfriends!"

Good chance that most of those 3000 games are duplicates too, like having 70 Sonic 2 ROMs on it with slightly different tints and/or names.

Well, I'll risk looking like an idiot and say I'm stumped. Except for his pathetic PS2 / 360 / Gamecube collection, those look like the right games for the systems (after glancing through it).  What is sad, is that if you look at his buying history he has recently bought SNES and GB games, so it looks like he's a collector who is trying to sell stuff.

I didn't mean so much errors as red flags.

Ignoring systems, the guy wants >$10 per game (or $40), which is wholly unrealistic (the B-I-N is so high, it might be a figure that his dog told him) on such a large lot, especially when completeness and condition are never discussed, and no pictures are shown. The guy's feedback is waaaaay too low to even consider spending $8k with him, let alone $32k. The seller gives no indication what the shipping method or expense would be, or whether you've got any choice in the matter. The description indicates that this is the guy's first time as a seller on eBay, and he writes Colecovision and Dreamcast both as two words. Also, nothing is alphabetized, which makes figuring out exactly what's there so tedious that I'm no longer interested in filtering through after about 30 seconds.

No collector in their right mind would go for this, and no store would want this boatload of overpriced junk, b/c they wouldn't be able to turn a profit on it.

Why do people get this bizarre notion that buyers wants to entrust big bucks with a completely unknown person? I've seen a lot of auctions that, aside from being overpriced or composed of outright trash, belong to first-time sellers that think that their word on what they've got for you should be enticing enough for you to trust them with $3000. Most game collectors aren't starving for your battered trash. I blame the Antiques Roadshow.

[QUOTE="gakon5"]Had to bump this thread to show you all two real gems: Nintendo Wii box only: [ link ] Nintendo Wii receipt: [ link ] That's right, both an empty Wii box and a Best Buy Wii receipt (with no system) have been sold on eBay for values of over $400. The best part though, is that these aren't those wierd, sly auctions where the seller is using creative wording to screw over the buyer. Both of these sellers are explicitly stating what they're selling. I mean, just read this item description for the empty Wii box: "That's right, this is a New Nintendo Wii Box. The box is from Costco and has never been used. Nothing is included. Today, you could be the proud owner of an Official Nintendo Wii box. The Official Nintendo Wii box is in good condition. This box can be used to hold many things that will fit inside of it. The box can also be used to impress your friends. Tell them that you got a wii and show them the box. As long as they dont ask to play it, you're in the clear! The box can also be used as a good Christmas gift joke. Get their hopes up on Christmas morning. Capture the looks on their faces when they open up a gift only to see a wii box in there! Then watch as their hopes crash and burn when they notice that nothing is inside! The uses for this box are limitless and if the item goes for enough money, I'll even send it with something inside! Note: The something will be newspaper. Questions? Comments? Message me and I'll respond ASAP. Due to high demand, no refunds will be honored. This is for the box only, not the system." I wonder if the auction has been paid for yet or not? If it hasn't, he (the buyer) still has a chance to duck out with just a piece of negative feedback. Better than buying an empty box IMO.

interesting auction listing by Stevegakon5

Re: point 3

As someone who has taken a large number of college-level physics courses, I am wholly offended by this "4-D graphics" concept.  It needs to be stomped out immediately before we all read it enough times to dumb ourselves down enough to believe the horse-pucky it represents.

That made me chuckle a few times. :)

Still, I'm surprised it didn't mention anything about Chuck Norris; like, "The Playstation 3's graphical power is roughly equivalent to 1.48 CNRHKs (Chuck Norris Round-House Kicks)."

Not on the same level with all the silly console auctions, but it got me thinking...

If I can get This, then why would I want to bid on this?

Wow, I wouldn't even pay $50 for a new copy of that game, but it certainly beats $80 for a 'fair' condition disc!

A beautiful copy of Castlevania: SOTN, complete with the almost unremoveable ex-rental sticker plasted all over the disc, lots of free scratches from being an ex-rental, excludes manual and has a nice blockbuster sticker on front insert. All for the low low price of $76 AUS

Those full-surface stickers can be a pain in the ass to remove, especially if they are older.

Wow, 20 big ones. Quickly looked over the list and didn't see much that interested me.
