I've been embedding videos into forums here and there with little to no issues, at first I thought it wasn't working since videos don't show up in previews, then after posting I have to hit the refresh button once and they show up, but lately I've noticed them not posting, and when I go into edit to look at the code it shows that the... src = " blah blah blah" ...line is missing, what's the deal with this? I've done everything that's worked before, even putting p-tags around the embed code but that doesn't help. It simply just keeps deleting the source fragment of the embed code.

It works fine for me. Does it look like this when you are embeding your video.

Or does youtube give you no embed when you try to embed the video?

I'm having the same problem. The src line keeps disappearing, and the video won't show up.

I take it directly out of the YouTube embed as always worked before, the code is complete when I copy it, complete when I past it, but when I submit it or press preview the -- src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xxxx....". -- fragment disappears. All that's left is the -- width="XXX" height="XXX" -- fragments within the iframe brackets, so when it auto deletes and just leaves something like... {iframe height="XXX" width="XXX"}{/iframe}. Everything worked fine for me before, it's only in the last week or so that it stopped working.

I would be curious to know what value you are trying to give the src attribute. Previews and spell checks of embeds still look ok here and on my test alts, although the only ones I know to try are gs and youtube.

I'm going to test this out again in this thread because I noticed a couple of users have also been dealing with this issue recently.

This was done without the editor on.The video won't embed without refreshing when the editor is off.Since it is kinds hard to show this play around with that editor and try to embed videos when it is off and on.Also, if you try to play around with your post in a certain way while editing it the video in your post won't show anymore without refershing the page you are on.

I quoted you, hit preview, the src code is gone. I'm well aware of videos not showing previously without page refreshes, this doesn't seem to be the case, now the src code just keeps getting deleted.

Try embeding videos with the WYSIG editor on.

Yeah I don't know what's going on there. I'm pretty sure that's the behavior for src values the filter doesn't like, but I don't know why it would kick in for some users on src values that are ok for pretty much everyone else. Since I'm not a mod any more I can't double check that it's not some sort of moderation artifact, but I'm assuming there are no moderations in play. Staff or mods can double check. Optionally, I would consider retitling this thread slightly. Maybe "BUG: valid video embed iframe src attributes removed for some users". I'm going to embed super600's example just to make sure it still sticks in this forum when I do it, which may not be a particularly meaningful test, but what the heck...

If super600 and gmax can embed things, it may be a user permission/privilege issue.

I am having a similar problem, except that nothing shows up. The thread simply refuses to load the Flash player.

I think everyone has the ability to embed videos, but i think certain videos can't be embed or take awhile to embed.I can play around with this more later.

Testing again with the editor off with another video on youtube Also I suggest you guys check to see if embeding has been disabled now on any of the videos you are trying to embed. That may also be causing this problem.

For those seeing "src" values getting removed from their embeds, I would still suggest including those src values in your post here. Also, for other affected users who might otherwise be inclined to just lurk, go ahead and post here with the affected account. There's no telling yet if it's something about the videos or something about the affected accounts, but I tend to think it's something to do with the affected accounts, even if it's wildly speculative of me to say so.

Ok. Omitting the http: causes the src to be removed when I try it from a regular account. I see also that http: is omitted from the embed code youtube is generating. Perhaps this changed at some point. The youtube screen shot in the original embedding announcement shows a src value that included the http:. Try putting the http: back in at the beginning of the src value. If that works, that's what's going on. Offhand I'm not certain of the history (or wisdom) of omitting protocol schemes from UR*s, but that's probably a higher level discussion.

Ok. Omitting the http:causes the src to be removed when I try it from a regular account.gmax

So can it be considered an account privileges issue? I don't really want to keep doing work-arounds.

Agreed. I'm glad there's a functional workaround identified, but I'm hoping this is considered a temporary fix.

This does not seem like a privileges issue to me, but my assessment is not official. When GS opened up embedding youtube was including the http: portion of the src value in their embed code and that's what the GS filters were set to accept. All that has happened in the mean time is that youtube has stopped including the http: portion in their src values; it seems to me that GS didn't change anything, and the GS filter is working the way it was originally set up. When or if there is an adjustment to the filter would be GS's decision. The main thing we can do here is just be as clear as we can about what is going on.

Regular users can't do that. You can because you're a Ranger, and some Rangers go through other filters. To verify what regular users can do you need to test with another account.

Test: Well that's rather weird - it always appears as if the src attribute has been removed initially, but reloading the thread page after posting it shows it. The http: part being needed for regular users for youtube embeds is one thing - easily fixed by getting GS to update their whitelist filter for it. On the other hand videos should be appearing when the thread loads up immediately after posting, but regularly aren't doing so. There's a few possible reasons I can think of, but I can't really accurately test for the cause. It could even just be the backend system filter not being quite fast enough and the new page loading before it allows the URLs through. Until a fix is figured out for that just refresh the page after posting a video if it doesn't appear, it'll normally appear after a refresh provided it's allowed by the filter.
