Football Manager 2010 - On form this season

When I first downloaded the demo for FM2010 on steam, I was not sure what to expect. The previous version was good enough, but the promised improvements appeared to me to make it seem like the producers were "trying too hard" to make this game great. Oh how wrong I was.

Ever since I had played the demo I have been hooked on this game. In my opinion the tactics screen is fantastic and gives you a good ground to lead your team to victory. It allows you to mix and match your formations, stratagies and everything else as much as you like. For example, when I started with Liverpool I followed Rafa Benitez's famous lineup of 4-2-3-1. But after mixing the tactics around and some activity in the transfer market I soon found that with my creativity and new signings that a 4-2-2-2 suited my style of management and the players.

The producers have also changed the aesthetics from last season and it looks loads better, in my opinion. Sega have brought a new look to the game, and a new way of control – gone is the side menu, to be replaced by an easier to use tab system, with everything at your finger tips. The tab system is simply wonderful, as it provieds easy enough acess to all parts of your team.

The actual match screen has also seen an improvement. The AI are more intelligent and make more sensible moves on and off the ball, although some players have been seen to make howlers. There are thousands of new animations, as Sega state, which makes the game even better to play and watch. One small thing that needs improving is the animations for fouls. On a few occasions I have had players given a straight red card for running alongside someone.

Animation flaws aside I am still addicted to this game and I give it a strong rating of 9/10.
