Just a quick edit as I just thought of this while talking to my friend. I remember years ago buying Asheron's Call after playing Everquest and remembering how disappointed I was with that. I had the exact same feeling with FFXIV.
Additional edit: I originally reviewed this after playing for about 10 days... now that I have gone 5 weeks into the game, I can honesty say that it never gets any better. You never really get used to the clunky controls and there is no way to edit them. The main story takes forever to continue, and there is nothing entertaining to it at all. Everything seems so tedious now. It is a constant grind whether fighting or crafting. 8 quests every 36 hours... and they are always the same: go kill 10 dodo birds and return, rinse and repeat. Crafting... ugh... the initial creativity of turning it into a mini game was original, but once you realize that it takes 5 minutes just to make a piece of cloth, good lord is it frustrating. The animations are just so slow and mundane. SE has offered everyone an additional month to play for free and I can honestly say that I am done. I do not want an extra month for free... I am tired of the game, period.
