As much as I hate re-hashes...

User Rating: 9 | Donkey Kong Jungle Beat (Wii de Asobu) WII
Nintendo have gotten into the swing of re-hashing old copies of games using new play controls, and as much as I hear the words cop-out screaming at me, I cant for the life of me hate the game.

Tonight, Cloudkirby beats things senseless in DK, Jungle beat for Wii.

Plot: All was peaceful in the jungle for a while, but since that does not make a good story for a game (like it ever does) Evil kings move in and take over the jungle. So its up to DK, our banana eating hero, to save the day (Gee, I thought lions were king of the jungle).

Gameplay: gameplay is standard side scrolling action with an emphasis on style. You get bananas (these were called beats in the first game) by grabbing them and pulling off combo's. Each different action you do gets you a multiplier fairy, who will zoom around you and multiply your score. The main draw is the boss battles. All of the beats you collect will be used as your health in boss battles. There are four different types of bosses including Tusks, rocs, hogs, and kongs. The Tusks are elephant tanks who have a weakness to pineapple bombs, the rocs just love their eggs, the hogs like to throw things at you (but not vice versa), and the kongs are boxers.

Controls: No doubt most of yu have played DK:JB when it was on gamecube with the DK bongo's. This version is no complete cop out. Gameplay changes include standardized controls such as using the stick to move or swinging the wiimote to clap (which is now directional). The game is also a tad harder then previous runs, making it more fun to those who blasted through this game in less than an hour. The wii controls may be un-responsive at times, but is an easily forgettable flaw. The kong boss fights are easily the greatest improvement, they give the feeling of actually boxing. Overall the new controls work well and Don't take away from the original charm of the game.

Music: the music is back in one of the most memorable soundtracks I have ever heard.

So Cloudkirby, you swingin' guy you, is this a good game?
The wii controls are a welcome alternative to the bongo's but people who own the first game will not want to buy it. It still warrants a look at though, give it a try first.

The only reason this gets a 9 is because it's a re-hash. Had they made a sequel, it would have been a 10.
