Death By Degrees

User Rating: 7.5 | Tekken: Nina Williams - Death by Degrees PS2
Death By Degrees is a game starring the legendary Nina Williams from the Tekken series...

*Gameplay 7.5/10
The gameplay on DBD has nothing to do with Tekken but it keeps most of Nina's moves. Using the analog stick to move around and the other to fight. You'll get a short tutorial at the start of the game.

-Pressing the L1 button will put you on attack mode. (where you can equip the selected weapon/etc ''with the D-pad'', if without any weapons your attacks seem more focused/strong) Simply hold the L1 and use the Right analog stick to fight, releasing the L1 will make Nina use her normal attacks.

-While fighting enemies you'll earn ''skill points'' and with these you can buy new skills from the Skills menu. (Command Skills. Basic, Melee Weapon, Firearm)

-The Left analog stick makes Nina walk (Pressing ''O'' along it makes her run). Quick tapping it makes her avoid attacks, run on to walls, jump over an enemy etc. Quick tap can be very helpful

-You'll find yourself searching for fingerprints (to scan with the device) to enter certain areas or open lockers with helpful weapons etc.

-''Critical Strikes are brutal attacks that target an enemy's vital points. When the Focus Gauge reaches the required level, tap the right analog stick while holding down the L2 button to execute a Critical Strike''

-Pressing the R1 button will grab the enemy, practice can make you (grab, throw, submission holds, strangle etc.)

-Holding the R2 button will change the camera, giving you a better view. You aren't always free to use it.

In DBD there are also Mini-Games you must do to continue your mission or to get a new items/weapons like (Sniping, Stingray, Honeycomb)

-Swimming and Crawling into shafts switch the camera to first person which doesn't make much sense.

-Completing the game will unlock you tons of missions which become very challenging
-Anna mode, which you'll play as Anna in one go without saving
-Movie player
-Music player
-Bag with costumes, Tekken 2 Nina is a surprise!

Depending how many gold coins you find, you'll get a certain number of Defibrillators in the beginning of the game.

Gameplay stays solid, it's very fast paced and it would have been faster if it wasn't for the loading times but it doesn't completely destroy the game, it's not as long as they say. If you can be patient for a little then you can enjoy the gameplay.

*Graphics 7.5/10
Scenes and fun to watch and the graphics are wonderful, the ares were done good. It's nice to check things out.

*Sound 8.5/10
The soundtrack is Rock, puts you right into the action and it has some neat music. Turning the volume up!

Voice acting is great, ''Mary Elizabeth McGlynn'' (Nina's voice) does an okay job, dialog sometimes sounds lifeless and dull. Other sound effects work well.

*Value 7/10
Finishing DBD more than once can still be fun, you'll get better and you'll get some extras to it.

Challenges will keep you busy.

After all, Death By Degrees is specially made for Nina fans and to others maybe not. Appreciating the game will it fun, being patient for loading screens will make the game better. Gameplay is fun but can be frustrating... it's not terrible.

Not the best game, but it's worth giving it a try.
