As a shareholder in Apple, Google, and Alibaba (this is true) and a game consumer who has bought many Ubisoft games that look pretty good, at first seem okay, and then turn out to be utterly boring crap - I say: crush UBISOFT mega tech companies. Crush them to hell!

It's kinda funny how lazy that chinese company were when it came to copying Siege that they did a pure copy and paste of the whole UI. You'd think making your own unique UI art would be the easy part.

Really hard to make a case for this but these type of cases can really go both ways because its all about having really good lawyers and convincing the jury.

So, does Ubisoft have a case here? Yes they do. Can they win? Most likely.
Is it good for the industry? No.

The issue with the mess of the patent system and the copyright system at the moment is that it´s binary.
There is no shades of grey and that has created lots of trolls just taking advantage.

In this case in particular, sure Ubisoft is right. Look at the footage of Area F2. It is a complete ripoff. Down to the art design, gameplay, UI. There is literally no originality or presentation of a similar game but in a different way. The typical COD gaming sequel can even be more original then this.

The issue here is the total irresponsibility of the Area F2 developers and the repercussions to devs if Ubisoft wins.

Developer houses, publishers and so on have in general used common sense to try and not sue each other over and over again for common ideas and concepts. Makes sense after all.

Area F2 clearly disrespected this and now if Ubisoft wins, we have yet another case that can be used as defense for future cases. The issue is that those future cases might be between a big publisher vs a small developer that has done mostly original work but based on some popular concept.

It could be used to destroy emerging publishers/developers before they are too strong to compete.

This dev is braindead.

It would be interesting to see how this plays out. I get that when promoting the game the fear might be that players will associate the two and think it a sequel or some such or if the game is sub par in quality potentially harm their reputation. By forcing the game to be taken down, the developer will have to change the UI design for western markets which isn’t a big deal 🤷🏻‍♂️ Right? Right?!?

Funny how Ubisoft isn't suing the actual creator of the game Alibaba or its website Ejoy, and instead suing Apple and Google for not removing the game. I guess Ubisoft knew that the Chinese courts will never allow Alibaba to lose a lawsuit so they just want to throw $hi+ and see what sticks.
