Three Years and No Announcements Later, Bethesda Still Working on Mysterious "Starfield"

Three years ago this month, Bethesda parent company ZeniMax filed a trademark application for something called "Starfield." No announcements, or even teases of announcements, have been made regarding what this might be. However, it looks like ZeniMax continues to be interested in bringing it to market, or at least protecting its ability to.

On April 11, ZeniMax filed a new trademark application for Starfield with the United States Patent & Trademark Office. This is in fact the fourth trademark ZeniMax holds for Starfield. While the other three cover things like computer and console games, as well as t-shirts, this one specifically mentions mobile games. This doesn't necessarily mean Starfield is a mobile game, only that it could be.

Bethesda recently opened an office in Canada that will work on mobile games, as well as projects for console and PC. Additionally, Bethesda's Todd Howard recently pledged that the studio will make more mobile games in the future, following the success of its first one, Fallout Shelter. Bethesda's next mobile game is The Elder Scrolls Legends, which is coming later this year to mobile devices and PC.

GameSpot has contacted Bethesda in an attempt to get more details on its plans for Starfield. We will update this post with anything we hear back or if other developments come to light.
