Star Wars Battlefront 2 Update Has Increased Rewards And Boosted Progression

A new Battlefront II update is out now.

DICE continues to make adjustments to Star Wars Battlefront II. While microtransactions remain disabled, the studio released a new update earlier this week in an attempt to address complaints regarding the rate at which players earn rewards and unlock new items.

With new content themed around The Last Jedi on the way throughout December, the new Battlefront II update focuses exclusively on progression. A common complaint among fans has been that the game is too slow to dole out Credits, and that your performance factors in very little--leading to some players finding ways to idle in-game by running in circles to rack up rewards. All players will now receive more Credits at the end of a match, and DICE has "specifically bump[ed] the top players on each team by even more."

Now Playing: GS News Update: Star Wars Battlefront 2 Update Changes In-Game Rewards And Progression

Additionally, DICE has increased--but not removed--the cap on how many Credits can be earned in Arcade mode every day. DICE said in a blog post that players "were hitting the Arcade mode Credit cap faster than [it] expected." As a result, you can now earn up to 1,500 daily, three times as many as before. DICE explained, "While we're still looking into ways to add more content into the mode in the long-term, we think that this should help in the near-term for those who want rewards for completing the different scenarios."

The final change comes from rewards handed out through the free loot crate you receive for logging in each day. These now provide more crafting parts, which are used to obtain specific Star Cards. DICE stated, "This should help you get where you want to go faster when it comes to crafting and upgrading."

A number of changes were made to progression before release. For instance, in response to claims that it took far too long to unlock Hero units, DICE cut their prices--though some rewards also decreased. More significantly, in response to the uproar about how its microtransactions felt like a pay-to-win setup, EA disabled them temporarily just hours before release. Microtransactions will return in the future, but we don't yet know in what form. Datamining has suggested that more extensive character customization could be on the way, which may open the door for an Overwatch-style loot box system that is limited to cosmetics. EA has publicly said Star Wars cosmetics are difficult due to needing to go through Lucasfilm.

Following this update, Battlefront II will be receiving a variety of new content for free this month. The Last Jedi season of content has officially begun; updates later in the month will bring new maps, vehicles, Hero units, and a campaign chapter, among other things.

I was gonna pick this up when it goes to about £20 (new) as I don't think it's worth any more than that but honestly, I've almost forgotten about this game now. The amount of games out there are vast. One simple slip up and games can easily be forgotten to time. Though I wouldn't call EA one simple slip up. They need to actually take a leaf out of other certain games. E.g. Hellblade, Uncharted Lost Legacy. If it's a game which you can go through in about 6 hours or so, then charge it at something like £20/£25 on release ^_^

No date on when they will ban a game over run with cheaters. No date on fix to server lag. Wall street released today 2018 date micro transactions will return. Play at your own risk.

More honest headline:

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Update Has TEMPORARILY Increased Rewards And Boosted Progression

EA has reiterated time and time again that they all of those loot boxes are going right the f*ck back in when they think they can get away with it. It is a core feature of their revenue model (which is actually a core reason behind why their share value tanked). EA can--and will--continue to "tweak" this system to maximize their revenue.

The only way for the consumer to win this particular game is never to play it.

Too little too late. Games that give a bad first impression get skipped by me. I don't care how cheap they make it, or how well they fix it. It's too late! And another AAA title bites the dust. RIP Gaming.

Broken, Hacker, and Cheater paradise. Not playable since early launch in many ways. Lagging servers and progressions system continually ruined by bad development decisions. Game will tell you that they cant get a bead on the hackers, which give zero confidence in development team.

75% hero reduction cost, 3x increase of arcade cap...they were so far off on all of these it's almost like they were motivated purely by seeing how far they could push their greed on consumers instead of creating a balanced and fair system.

I'll play this on EA access when it inevitability enters the vault (the 10 hour trial limits the single player story). I refuse to pay full price for most EA games due to the aggressive nature in the way they implement microtransactions. I would rather pay £20 a year for its free to play style full price games.

If EA access stopped I would just continue to buy NFS like I have from the first title. At first I refused to buy Payback due to the poor reviews but it turns out its a damn good game and probably my favorite since 2005 Most Wanted regardless of microtransactions.
After trying the 10 hour trial of Star Wars it is simply an average game with great graphics on the One X. I can't deal with average when the grind is as horrible as it is. Even these changes are laughable and still seem like a half measure with microtransaction balancing still in mind.

Petition started to cancel EA Star Wars license https://www.change.org/p/lucasfilm-revoke-ea-s-star-wars-license I don't normally go in for these sort of things, but about time gamers started to fight back a little.

@Fallenlords69:

I'd like to see the publishing license go to Atari, sub-contract Epic to make the game.

The two of them have worked together in the past.

@Fallenlords69: You may have noticed -- gamers DID fight back, and clearly won. Disney noticed too -- VERY publicly.

@Pyrosa: Yeah but you need to keep the momentum going. EA to my mind one of the worst culprits for exploiting gamers. To have the Star Wars license stripped would knock another 3 billion+ off their stock price. And hopefully bury them.

@Fallenlords69: Frankly, if not them then who? It'd just go to someone like Ubisoft where we wouldn't have working servers for two years, or Activision where they would oversaturate the market with mediocre games.

At least at EA that have good developers like DICE and a solid pool of support for them like Criterion. EA just needs to keep themselves from ruining it.

@Greyfox-101: I don't mind anybody but EA.

DICE at one time I would agree with you, but now not so sure. Their latest offerings haven't been to my tastes at all. Started going downhill from BF4 onwards. Boring repetitive games with slow progression. And I think utilising this Frostbite Engine for other genres is just pulling it from what is was designed for initially. At the same time having massive impacts on games it wasn't designed to ever be utlised on (Dragon Age for example).

I don't buy EA games now. Self imposed ban. Dragon Age was bad enough, but then Mass Effect Andromeda after all the rubbish with the Mass Effect 3 ending, how could you even release that rubbish. They reckon Anthem is in trouble as well. So no, time to bin EA once and for all. EA suck the life out of good developers and just leave a husk behind.

@Fallenlords69: I'm already on the Anthem flop bandwagon. No way I am falling for that E3 trailer they showed off. That's what E3 trailers are for. To script a cool scene that will never happen in the real game. The final product will look nothing like the E3 trailer. I'm not falling for Anthem one bit. I see right through you, Anthem.

@Fallenlords69: I think DICE's recent games have all been high-quality and the progression fine (outside of Battlefront of course).

Never played Dragon Age, but heard the qualms. Also, you're spot-on about Andromeda, stopped playing and never looked back after about an hour.

Maybe it's EA's fault, maybe it's not. I don't agree with EA's practices, but I personally don't see a ton of difference between them and the other main publishers either. I think along with many other industries, it's just the nature of the beast that the biggest are going to be the worst in many ways.

@Greyfox-101: I think DICE have been producing the same game for years with different skins. I am not a big fan at all. Initially with the destructible environments I thought we were on to a winner. The problem with all of their games, to my mind, is the run around the side of the map and shoot people from behind type of tactics. They would of been better with some sort of battle lines drawn IMHO to make them more realistic type of war games.

EA, they buy up game companies and then screw up their games. That sort of things smacks of trying to gain a monopoly through acquisition. Rather than producing quality titles to dominate the market. Buying Respawn - that is Titanfall 3 down the drain. Just don't think EA do enough to support their games once released, or don't allow the developers to do their job and fix problems. Mantra of release, grab cash, support as little as possible and then move on to the next game. Rinse and repeat. Issue a few statements along the way about how sorry they are about a certain situation while secretly gloating that they already have your money.

What a completely wasted effort, to systemically design a game around grind and micro-transactions.

Is it possible that the progression and rate you get rewards is so low because they were initially trying to push people to pay for these things? We are not stupid EA. The damage control is strong with this one

I thank EA for the Origin Access program - it allowed me to get the 'new game' impulse out of my system with the 10 hour trial for this game - of which I only played less than 2 hours. Between that and playing the first SW Battlefront for only an hour, and getting annoyed by getting insta-killed upon spawning - I anticipated a shitty game experience in SWBFII.

So thank you EA for helping me save $80 and avoiding purchase on this game!

Don't waste your money on this like I did. Overwatch bans hackers and sues the companys selling them. Battlefront 2 seems to welcome hackers and is already overrun with them. The game has a complete recipe for failure very soon. The writing is on the wall.

I've been playing quite a bit since the update and the only credit increase I see is if you're in the top 5. Otherwise, the credit increase is maybe 10% at best. It needs to be around 50% due to loot boxes being so expensive and RNG being very unrewarding.

@uninspiredcup: I agree but neither does Disney. They are similar companies that maximize profits every chance they get. Ever been to Disney land? Its similar to micro transactions with different passes for people, everything is crazy expensive. EA is exactly where the IP was going to land once Disney bought it. Sad but true.

@KingKalo: I think Disney has done fine with the property. And of course they're going to try and make money...

Disneyland is a false equivalency. That's a one-off gimmick theme park that is more of a branded resort than anything else, so of course it'll be expensive. Same as any other similar type of establishment.

It's not like they're adding microtransactiong to their movies where you have to put extra in order to hear all of the dialogue or see finished VFX after paying the admission price.

@Greyfox-101: Do you think what they did with battlefront 2 was good? What if it took 1000 hours of playtime to unlock a single hero, is that still ok? The problem with these companies is that the genuine experience is lost. I think they absolutely have the right to do what they desire with the IP, they own it. But, I think it is sad to monopolize a beloved IP and take advantage of fans who have love the universe. I think there are ways to make both customers and stock holders happy, this model just isnt it.

@KingKalo: No, I never said that. I think what EA did to Battlefront and DICE's / Criterion's hard work is a catastrophe and I'm glad the consumers spoke up and forced change.

I was specifically referring to your Disney comment, because I don't think Disney has honestly done anything themselves to damage the brand or taint it in anyway. I was pointing out that I don't think your Disneyland comment works as a comparison to what happened in Battlefront, mainly because it only exists in two forms (Disneyland & Disney World) as venues.

It's more similar to a concert or sports venue where everything is stupid expensive, whereas Battlefront is mass-produced entertainment. Not saying it's right, but it's still two different scenarios.

@Greyfox-101: Gotcha. My personal feelings about Disney were injected here. I believe that Disney is a company that also puts money ahead of its customers at times. That is their prerogative, I just wont support them because I believe this motive comes through in their movies and games. I thought the new star wars films were garbage and I dont think that would the case if someone else was in control. That is merely my opinion. I do not think Disney is good for Star Wars.

To me, they just seem disingenuous. I would compare them to companies like Patagonia or REI that seem to make decisions with employees and their customers in mind before their stock holders. I can't believe I am the one on this end of the argument, I am usually the one yelling at leftists about the beauty of capitalism. And, with capitalism comes the market correction which is what is happening to EA right now.

This would be so much easier to talk about instead of message boarding, I appreciate your comment and challenge. Love the other side of arguments.

@Starhopper4: What I love about this is that I am a staunch capitalist, lol. Oooh, I just saw the still live at home, ouch.

I have my own business, 2 kids and 2 properties, Im 38.

I guess you are defending the rape of customers? You agree with the micro transactions and the belief there is no corporate responsibility? If you are defending EA I would love to hear it because this is a very one sided argument, always nice to hear the other side. There are ethical ways of doing business that dont anger the customer such as the Battlefront 2 fiasco. EA is consistently listed as one of the worst companies in America and they just lost points on their stock over this so maybe they should consider the customer instead of just treating everyone like a wallet.

Nice. Now they just need to promise to not put the microtransactions back in ever and lower the price of the game to around 20 bucks and they might have a new customer.
