Spyro The Dragon Remaster Leaked For PS4 And Xbox One, Release Date And Box Art Emerge

Year of the Dragon.

Spyro's rumored remaster trilogy has been leaked. The original three games will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One on September 21, 2018, according to an Amazon listing. [Update: The Spyro remaster has been confirmed, and we've also gotten a look at some comparison images.]

Amazon India states the remaster--officially titled Spyro: Reignited Trilogy--will contain "all three original Spyro games fully remastered in HD." That means you'll get the first Spyro the Dragon, as well as Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage (known as Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer in Europe and Australia), and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. In total, the bundle includes "100+ levels, remastered with breathtaking graphical updates and improved gameplay controls," according to the listing, which also displays what looks to be final box art and a bunch of screenshots, which you can see below.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Spyro Reignited Trilogy Confirmed For PS4 And Xbox One

No Caption Provided

Amazon Mexico has a similar entry for Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, while a screenshot that looks very similar to the above box art has been spotted on the official Spyro website. The trilogy has been rumored in the past, and these latest leaks make the possibility of a Spyro remaster seem more plausible. However, that report stated the bundle would be a timed exclusive to PS4--similar to last year's Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy--and that it would be developed by Vicarious Visions; the new box art appears to cite Skylanders developer Toys for Bob as the studio behind the Reignited Trilogy.

This September marks the 20th anniversary of Spyro the Dragon's original release on PS1. That game, as well as the subsequent two that will be included in this remaster, were developed by Insomniac Games, the studio that would go on to create Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, and Sunset Overdrive. Later entries in the series were handled by other studios, with the biggest recent success being the spin-off Skylanders series.

I had very good memories about Spyro 3, then I tried to emulate the game on my phone just for nostalgia... And goddamn, it's so fucking childish, lol I played as a kid, so this is the reason why I enjoyed this much. But Spyro didn't aged well just like Mario, even Crash to some extent, the game remains very limited to a niche audience. I believe a current kid can have fun with Spyro, but older players? idk man, the formula is just too simple, the game is too easy, the artstyle is too childish, etc.. It's better to keep my memories instead of replaying the game and remember how dumb and simple it really is.

@DeadPhoenix86: how so? crash wasn't exclusive and is being released elsewhere. it was just a timed exclusive since crash was a playstation-only franchise back in the day and has the most fans on ps4. as for exclusives, sony has more than enough of them, both 1st party and 3rd party (console exclusive, some of which are also on pc). i don't think anyone is concerned about that.

@Xristophoros: It was never mentioned as a timed Exclusive. So kinda surprised its coming out on other platforms as well. But Most of the Ps4 exclusive's doesn't interest me. Not a fan of Japanese games.

@DeadPhoenix86: not interested in uncharted, last of us, horizon, god of war, detroit, infamous, etc? well, i guess you have your own taste. i think sony has a great balance between japanese and western developed games.

@Xristophoros: Uncharted 4 was a rental at best. Finished it once and never bothered to play it again...
God of War looks kind of boring. Infamous same reason as Uncharted 4. As for Detroit, not into Quick time events.
Played Last of us on the Ps3, never bothered to get it again on the Ps4, so i dislike paying again for the same game. The Only game that looks somewhat descent is Spider man, but i see its using allot of QTE. And i Kinda hate QTE....
So that Leaves Last of us 2.

@DeadPhoenix86: you must be hard to please. not sure what games you have interest in... please don't say gears, halo and forza. that would be too typical.

@Xristophoros: I have a huge list of games i like. But the ones i can list are Batman Arkham Series, Metal Gear Solid Series, Devil May Cry Series, Tomb Raider Reboot, Resident Evil Series. That's just a small part of the list. But I'm actually more into Third Party games.

@DeadPhoenix86@nintendians: I do think that the Nintendo Switch is the best place for classics.

Hopefully, it will get a port at a later date.

Once again Activision is playing fast and loose on what the word "remaster" means. This is a remake. If you want a remaster, go get Burnout Paradise on PS4

@KBABZ: So you’re saying that we should actually give them credit for underselling (for a change) what this is since a remake is far more work than a remaster right?

I will wait for the PC version because I like playing in 4K 60fps. Till then I will enjoy Crash 1,2 and 3 in 4K :)

@gokuKOG: I wouldn't be surprised if the One X versions were 4k, though since neither this or Crash are out on the X I can't find anything about what resolution or framerate these will run at.

@gokuKOG: You'll probably not get it. The Xbox one X plays close enough to that though to be happy with it. No reason to wait when you can have it already.

Wow that looks beautiful. See this is the stuff we should be getting remakes/remasters of, not stuff from last gen. I'm pretty pumped for this!

Next Remaster or Remake: Legend of Dragoon.

@RicanV: it's not a good jrpg. there are a dozen others i would put ahead of legend of dragoon deserving of a remake. if that is one of the few that you played growing up, i can see why you would have a special fondness for it, though.

While I don't think Spyro will have the same influence or success that the recently released Crash Bandicoot trilogy had it's still great to see an old favorite brought back for a new generation. With all the success of these re-masters/remakes over the last few years I don't see the trend stopping anytime soon.

Good news! Sony probably thinks there is no reason to keep timed exclusivity for this game due to crash bandicoot also coming to other consoles. Really great news if true since many nostalgia people may not have ps4 and bought xbone instead.
