Remnant: From The Ashes' Final Expansion, Subject 2923, Revealed
The dungeon-crawling souls-like shooter will see its last expansion, set for release on August 20 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Gunfire Games' Remnant: From The Ashes was an intriguing mix of third-person shooter gameplay with mechanics inspired by Dark Souls. Following the Swamps of Corsus DLC, which brought players to a new realm and introduced the game's roguelike survival mode, the developers have announced the next and final expansion for the dungeon-crawling shooter. Set for release on August 20 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, the Subject 2923 expansion for Remnant will introduce an expanded campaign that will take you to new areas of the corrupted Earth.
Serving as the capper for Remnant: From The Ashes, Subject 2923 will be the most significant expansion to the game, bringing in new areas, bosses, quests, and even with more loot to collect. In the newly released trailer and gameplay, we see the survivor explore one of the new zones set in an icy wasteland filled with anthropomorphic scavengers and deities inspired by Norse mythology.
The larger story of Subject 2923 will focus on the mystery of the beginning of the Dreamer Program, a major plot point from the base game, along with the growing conflict with invading force known as The Root. Before the reveal, we spoke with David Adams, president of Gunfire Games, about the making of Subject 2923 and how Remnant has evolved since its release in 2019.
"The biggest difference between the [Swamp of Corsus] expansion and this one is that it adds in a new story, there's a whole new campaign and biomes to explore, and it's much bigger than what came before," Adams said. "One of the great things about Remnant is that whenever we go to a new world, we can just do whatever we want with the game and experiment."
Remnant: From The Ashes has a fairly open-ended structure, letting players dive into new content at any time when it comes in. The Subject 2923 expansion won't be blocked off based on your progress in the story, so players who want to see the new zones can jump in when it releases. Furthermore, the bosses and locations from the new expansion will also be included in the rotation of the standalone survival mode, expanding the scope of the roguelike mode further.
