Pokemon Sword & Shield Giving Out Free Rare Poke Balls For A Limited Time

The Pokemon Company is giving away a few more free gifts in Pokemon Sword and Shield. For a limited time, you can claim a handful of rare Poke Balls via Mystery Gift. What's special about these Poke Balls is that there is normally only one of each in the games, making this is a good opportunity to add another to your inventory.

The free Poke Balls will be available through January 15, so you have until then to claim them. There are three codes to input, each of which will net you a different trio of Poke Balls. On top of that, The Pokemon Company has also shared codes for 10 free Luxury Balls and Dive Balls. Unlike the previous codes, these are good until January 30. You can see the codes and their corresponding gifts below.

Unlike standard Poke Balls, these all have special characteristics that make them more effective for catching certain kinds of Pokemon. You can see what each Poke Ball's effects are below.

Dream Ball	Better at catching sleeping Pokemon
Fast Ball	Better at catching Pokemon that flee
Friend Ball	Makes the Pokemon you catch more friendly toward you
Heavy Ball	Better at catching heavy Pokemon
Level Ball	Better at catching lower level Pokemon
Love Ball	Better at catching Pokemon that are the opposite gender of yours
Lure Ball	Better at catching Pokemon you fish up
Luxury Ball	Pokemon's friendship grows more quickly
Moon Ball	Better at catching Pokemon that evolve by Moon Stone

To receive the Poke Balls, you'll first need to fire up your copy of Sword or Shield and then follow the steps below to redeem the download codes:

• Select Mystery Gift from the menu screen
• Select Get a Mystery Gift
• Select Get Gift via Code/Password
• Follow the prompts to connect online
• Input the download code when prompted

These aren't the only freebies available in Sword and Shield right now. You still have time to claim a free Gigantamax Meowth via Mystery Gift. The special Pokemon will only be available until January 15. Players who have save data from Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu or Eevee on their Switch will also be able to get a free Gigantamax Pikachu or Eevee at the Wild Area station.
