Marvel's Blade Concept Art Reveals Paris Under Siege From Vampires

Welcome to the city of bites in Marvel's Blade.

One of the big surprises of The Game Awards last week was the reveal of an official Blade video game from Deathloop developer Arkane Lyon. Based on Marvel's resident vampire-hunter--who became massively popular after the release of the 1998 live-action movie starring Wesley Snipes--the trailer is a short and stylish teaser of the upcoming game. And if that's not enough, you can check out some new concept art for the game from Arkane Lyon's art department, courtesy of studio co-creative and art director Sebastien Mitton.

Set in the heart of Paris, Blade is a single-player, third-person game that takes place in a quarantined section of the city. Vampires have emerged and only the Daywalker can save the city from the supernatural pain in the neck.

"From his trench coat to his iconic sunglasses, Blade is a slick, stylish, and driven character," Mitton said in a Bethesda blog post after the game was officially revealed. "This project is the perfect opportunity to push Arkane's art style into an even more modern and bold territory. The essence of our work lives at the junction of impactful ideas and innovative know-how."

While it's still very early days for Marvel's Blade, the teaser trailer did show off some of the comic-book inspiration for the game. Arkane's signature art style is on full display, but if you look closely, you can spot a subtle texture to the visuals that's reminiscent of vintage comic book paper grains. A few other Marvel projects are also in development currently, including EA's Iron Man and Black Panther games, a team-up starring Captain America and the Wakandan defender, and a Wolverine game from Spider-Man developer Insomniac.
