Mark Wahlberg Talks Uncharted 2 Movie And Says Script Is In

2022's Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg made more than $400 million globally and is the No. 5 highest-grossing video game movie of all time. Despite its apparent commercial success, and the fact that Sony Pictures management believes the first movie started a "franchise," no sequel has been announced. Fans got some positive-sounding news recently, though, as Wahlberg said he heard the script for Uncharted 2 is finished.

Speaking to ScreenRant, Wahlberg said he was recently informed that the script is done and that he was informed he should start growing his mustache to play Sully again. "I'd be interested to see what the story's like, and where that adventure takes us. But I'm excited; I know audiences really loved the first one, so we'll see," he said.

Even with a script being submitted, that doesn't necessarily mean Uncharted 2 is a lock to actually get made. As Wahlberg alluded to with his "we'll see" comment, nothing is certain.

Uncharted reportedly cost $120 million to produce, and that doesn't count marketing expenses, but Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman said in an email to staff obtained by Deadline that Uncharted "is a new hit movie franchise for the company." The executive also mentioned how Uncharted had a very positive 90% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes (although the aggregate review score from critics was much lower by some measures).

Uncharted director Ruben Fleischer has already said he wants to return to make another movie and has expressed his desire to put Uncharted 4's car chase scene in it. Fleischer and Holland are also keen to make a Jak and Daxter movie for PlayStation Productions.

The movie's success is also bringing up renewed talk about the future of the Uncharted game series. 2022's Legacy of Thieves Collection is the latest entry in the franchise. Many are wondering if there will ever been an Uncharted 5, and that remains to be seen.
