GameSpot Editors' Top 10 Lists

I like seeing the editors' picks but, honestly, I'm really missing the genre awards. I know it's rough sometimes figuring out what games fit in what genres but that's where you really get to compare apples against apples. Well, OK, at least your comparing citrus to citrus anyway.

Just came from Good Old Games. Da cheapness is too much. I am going to get the Indies mentioned in these lists. 5 bucks for Spelunky and 1€ for my GOTY: System Shock 2. (hey first time playing it)

It's one of my favorite games of the year, but not my favorite; it had two important disappointing aspects to me, but with that said, I already have it on PS3, and I just bought it again on 360... The game I'm talking about is Bioshock Infinite. It was fourteen dollars, and unlike the PS3 version, supports Dolby Digital, so I'm glad about that.

Just so for anyone that happens to having some cynical thoughts about these lists appearing, you may want to be reminded that in recent years, some "concerned" people had been demanding more from the staffers about what goes into the decisions for their division-endorsed "Game of The Year" awards. These demands were made with the usual excuses of "demanding transparency" and such of course.

The lists are more than likely intended to show that the decisions were made with common ground among their personal preferences.

Of course, if you want to scoff at the lists anyway and write them off as the egotistical expressions of persons who exploit their editorial positions to publish their "biased preferences", go ahead - just don't be caught making a "Top Ten" list yourself and publishing it anywhere publicly viewable. ;)

Is there a legit reason why there is no list from Johnny? Is he just a TV personality with no gaming credibility?

Wow, I'm really surprised that not a single editor listed anywhere in their top 10's (on top of it not being nominated for PC GotY) Europa Universalis 4. Especially considering it's been getting lauded as the best strategy game of the year and even got a 9 here on Gamespot.

Where's the complex strategy game love Gamespot?

Just about the only similarities in the quotes above are the quotation symbols. :P

Going by these lists it's gonna be between Last of Us and Zelda (would've also included GTA V but it already lost to LoU on PS3).

Anyway, I loved this new feature of personal lists from the editors, if the idea was to drop the Special Achievement awards in favor of this, I'm ok with it. I do miss the special achievement awards, but this was actually more interesting and entertaining to read (imo). Certainly WAY more interesting than the platform awards... :/

Legitimately surprised at the exclusion of Pikmin 3. I absolutely loved that game, and I still play the multiplayer.

Props to Jess for The Swapper though, that game is rad.

Bioshock Infinite for GOTY.........

I'm kind of surprised/disappointed that Europa Universalis IV didn't get a nod on anyone's top 10 list for the year.

Admittedly, it is a grand strategy game, but it is/was very very good.

I haven't gotten to play every 2013 game I've wanted to play yet, but this would probably be my top 5 as of right now:

5. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

4. Pokemon X/Y

3. Fire Emblem: Awakening

2. BioShock Infinite

1. The Last of Us

Gone Home deserves it

The Last of Us should win GOTY, but it won't, because some tool gave it an 8. What a travesty.

I like seeing the variety of opinions. From this side, it can sometimes seem like GameSpot folks are all gushing over the same set of games, but that obviously isn't true. It's looking like a real battle for GOTY between Link and TLOU.

I can only assume that Mark and Randolph were the only ones to play Rayman Legends. Amazed that it's not on the vast majority of top ten lists. Top five easily for me.

Are we getting a Johnny, Cam or Seb lists?

Considering we watch them every week.

Curiously, everyone seemed to like the games that sold the most. Hence why they sold the most. Not to mention all the great reviews they got on many a website. Curious thing that.

Only Jess included 'The Swapper' though. She wins the competition.

Really interesting lists. Love the variety. Really glad it's not just GTAV/TLOU/Bioshock everywhere.

Zelda for GOTY. I'd pleased with that :)
