Far Cry 5 Campaign Length: It Could Take You 25 Hours Or More To Complete

You should expect the story to take around 25 hours to finish.

Ubisoft's next big open-world game, Far Cry 5, launches next week on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. But how long is the campaign? Executive producer Dan Hay says you should budget a good chunk of time to play the campaign--around 25 hours--but that's just the start. "I would say that a good player will go through it in 25 hours," Hay told GameSpot during an interview recently.

Hay went on to say that, based on playtests, Ubisoft has seen players getting distracted from the main story with things like fishing or hunting, which will extend the total playtime. Of course, everyone plays differently, and in a game like Far Cry 5 that lets you play your own way, 25 hours could turn into many more.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Far Cry 5's Campaign Could Take You 25 Hours Or More To Complete

"What we're seeing is people going into the world and just spending four or five hours fishing or hunting, or just doing stuff that we hadn't really prepared for," Hay said. "So it really depends on how you play."

In addition to the campaign--which can be played in co-op--Far Cry 5 will have a map-editor that you can use to build head-to-head game types or anything else you want. This gives the game an opportunity to stay relevant and keep people playing for a long time in the future.

Regarding the new map and mode editor for Far Cry 5, we asked Hay if the tools are robust enough to create something like PUBG or Fortnite. "That would be super cool," he replied. "Obviously we are growing the tools with every iteration, and this time it was a big, big growth rate for us."

Hay went on to say that he thought Far Cry 4's map editor was "clunky," going on to say that he hopes that the advancements for Far Cry 5 make the tools easier to use and more intuitive.

Far Cry 5 launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on March 27; you can see what we think in our Far Cry 5 review-in-progress. Ubisoft recently announced Far Cry 5's Season Pass, and it takes players to places like Mars and the Vietnam War. We also recently learned more about the game's microtransactions and how the campaign is playable offline.

I detect some delusion in the comments. 25 hours not including side missions is a dumb long campaign. Someone name for me another shooter with a campaign that long? No side missions or other fluff... going strictly from story mission to story mission.

25 hours doesn't seem long enough... As much as they've hyped this game up, I suppose they're falling back on their multiplayer aspects to make up for a lackluster campaign. I would not be surprised if they introduced some kind of Battle Royale mode.

@makoruu: 25 hours is quite long actually, I finished Far Cry 4 in 52 hours with 100% completion, and the 25 hours here is reffering to campaign only, considering that FC4's campaign PLUS side missions were estimated to take 35 hours on average, i'd guess that if FC5 has a simillar story to side mission ratio, it'd take like 60+ hours to complete and maybe 80-90 hours to get 100% completion... And I'm cool with that.

@nejx: for $60, 25 hrs "for a good gamer". in my book, that's not good value.

and they never said the main story takes 25 hours, they said you'd probably complete it by then...

@wowgrandpa: “ Executive producer Dan Hay says you should budget a good chunk of time to play the campaign--around 25 hours--but that's just the start“

Does that not look like he’s reffering to the campaign?

The campaign should have being over 40 hours, 25 hours is too short, not worth $60 for me I will wait on a price drop.

@hardcoregamer1: I noticed a lot of people don't really see how long 25 hours actually is. Keep in mind, Far Cry 4 took (on average) around 35 hours to complete the campaign AND all side missions, so while 25 hours may not be much, it is still a lot longer than Far Cry 4's.

@mikehawkinsideher: What I meant by the fact that 25 hours is more than you think is the fact that most people, if not everyone was completely satisfied with the lenght of fc4, and this is almost twice as long, thats what I meant by “some people don’t really see how long 25 hours is”...

And since you brought up Skyrimm, from what I’ve seen on yt and shit, that game is just a big **** you, like Just Cause 3, accept Just Cause is fun. Ok, now i’ve never played the game, it might be better than I think, but any game that allows modding to such an extent just isn’t playable for me, I like a game to stay true to itself...

@hardcoregamer1: think the time mentioned was for the campaign alone. When you’re speaking 40-60 hours you’re probably talking about 100% completion which includes side activities.

@cejay0813: the time mentioned was somewhere in between. the campaign is not 25 hrs, its less.

and for $60 the amount of time it takes to complete the "meaningful" side content.... that's not good value to me.

I loved the original Far Cry with the beautiful beaches and islands and would wish Ubisoft would remake the original version with today's advanced graphics and it was pretty damned hard just how I like it. All the other Far Cry's after the original were to easy to complete, for me anyway.

I'm just now enjoying Far Cry Primal which is a blast, I got for 12$ on digital sale a while back. This game just looks like the rest. With rednecks. lol Not very interesting, then again not many games today are. ;p(

@bubba_666: You know what's odd? Every time someone mentions Primal, they all say it was a great game. It really makes me wonder where the gossip originates from, that it's a bad game. I loved Primal and 100%'d it and I would play it again if I didn't have such a huge backlog.

@Keaze_: People always mention that fc primal was tedious and repetitive, but still liked the game, something I actually agree with, you can't say primal wasn't a bit repetitive at times, but I personally still enjoyed it, not as much as fc 4 thoough, but my personal little pet peeve (however you spell it) with primal was that in easier difficulties it seemed like you had an abundance of resources, in harder difficulties it seemed like you could never have enough of anything, and I still havent brought myself to go and 100% it like I did fc4

@Keaze_: Not sure what I like about it, at first I wasn't sure I'd like NOT having guns, missile launchers etc. But then I start poking around with a spear, starting fires etc. And it became addictive LOL. Weird how that works. Something funny was right at the beginning I wanted to see what happened when I poked the guy with my spear when going after the Mammoth. He turns on you, and well frankly your dead...once he stabs you to death HAHA!! Was pretty amusing.

25 hours is pretty good, provided ubisoft doesnt take the nfs paybaq route and make the users contantly grind to progress in story mode.

How much of that time is spent climbing towers, (or boning your in-game cousin, cooking up meth, etc)?

Yep 5 good missions worth about an hour and the rest fodder most likely. I guess there is some hope seeing their games have been improving somewhat of late.

@masterjafr: Just the story missions, side missions would probably, imo, add like another 35-40 hours. It would maybe take like 80 hours to 100% completion ( all my estimates are from how long it took me in fc4)

@masterjafr: That's only main missions I believe, which for an open world Action-RPG is pretty decent. Expect total playtime somewhere in the 80+ and that's without counting all the crazy shit people will make with the arcade.
