E3--the Electronic Entertainment Expo--will return in the future, the Entertainment Software Association said. The official E3 Twitter account posted a video saying "we know that we will be back."

E3 2020 was originally supposed to take place June 9 to June 11 in Los Angeles, but was canceled in March due to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic. Other large-scale conventions, like Gamescom in Germany, were also canceled due to the ongoing pandemic.

The ESA already announced that E3 2021 is still going to happen, although it might not look the same as previous years. PlayStation had already planned on skipping E3 for the second year in a row prior to its cancellation, and Microsoft has previously said it will experiment with digital-first experiences through the remainder of 2020.

In lieu of E3 press conferences, game companies have held their own livestreams, with the Xbox Series X first-party games showcase, Ubisoft Forward, and Devolver Digital Direct 2020, all taking place later this month.
