DRM-Free Fallout, Elder Scrolls PC Games Come to GOG

Bethesda brings its games to The Witcher dev's PC store, joining Activision, EA, and Square Enix.

The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red's DRM-free PC digital storefront, GOG, has added another major partner to its ranks. Select games from Fallout and Elder Scrolls developer Bethesda are now available on the platform, GOG announced Wednesday. Bethesda joins other industry heavyweights selling their games on GOG, including Activision, Electronic Arts, Square Enix, and Ubisoft, among others.

Bethesda isn't bringing its newest titles to GOG, but instead classics from the back catalog--which is not such a bad thing considering the developer's impressive history. Below are the Bethesda titles available now through GOG, and of course, there is no DRM whatsoever.

Elder Scrolls (buy all three and save 33 percent)

id Software (buy all three and save 33 percent)

Fallout (buy all three and save 66 percent)

GOG also announced that everyone who buys just one Bethesda game will receive a free copy of The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall.

Are you going to pick up any Bethesda games on GOG? Let us know in the comments below.

I really hope this means they are considering releasing FO4 on GOG, I'd much rather purchase it from there.

I got the Fallout games for free when they got pulled, but I'll probably buy some other games from Bethesda. Already have Morrowind Goty and Quake 1-3 on disc, but perhaps a Doom game.

Cool, too bad the combat in pre-oblivion games is so unbearable. Not to mention Fallout pre-3 is just... stupid. lol

@skyhighgam3r: Yeah, unbearable. That's why those games were wildly successful in an era where fad-gaming didn't exist.

What is it with you children anymore? "If I can't roll my face on the controller and get an achievement, why am I playing it?!"

@gaealiege: Wow, strike a nerve did I?

First of all, I'm not a 'kid' I'm almost 30.

Second of all, 'Achievements' are lame.

Third, get over yourself, it's a comment on my experience with the game.

If you liked it, good for you, go play it. I'm not stopping you.

YES! Finally redguard! I haven't played that game since the 90's , I still have my map that came in the box some where, all tore up/burnt, etc like they did to make it more "authentic" looking.

Plain & simple: because of DRM.

@skyhighgam3r: It's the little dog from 2 stupid dogs, possibly the greatest show involving two dogs imo.

@Dark_Wr4ith:

Spot on!

Best cartoon series EVER. My other favorite avatar that I use very often is Red from the 3 episodes:

"Red", "Red strikes back" & "The return of Red"

I'm assuming this means they'll be compatible with modern systems? My recent attempts to replay Morrowind and the early Fallout games were foiled by their inability to work on Windows 8.

My only problem with the original Fallout games is the damn dice rolls for everything. You basically have to save before every encounter and go in and hope for the best until you get lucky and then save again.

The world and story even back then are awesome but it is too much of a pot luck with the combat. You can have an 80% chance of hitting and miss entirely multiple times in a row.

At least in Fallout 3 / NV you can fall back on good ol' fashioned first person shooting skills when the dice rolls don't work out.

@Dannystaples14: the combat in Fallout 1 and 2 sucked especially when you have so many characters having their turns on the screen, but there is a good reason for making the combat so bad and that is to encourage you to use violence as a last resort. the games are so much faster to go through with a pacifist character and also more enjoyable because the combat is ass.

@Dannystaples14: That's basically every old school CRPG. You spend the whole game slowly minimizing the luck factor by weighting the numbers more and more in your favor through leveling up and getting better gear.

You think Fallout was a crap shoot early on, try playing a level 1 wizard in Baldur's Gate. : p

@Mogan: Ugh... That's my primary class. That first slog to the Inn, with 4 HP and equally low-level party members (assuming you even pick up the evil pair). Nightmarish.

Let's not also forget Bard's Tale, Wizardry, and the like, where resting meant going back to an Inn!

Said it a hundred times here, and I'll say it again: I love GOG.com. You don't even need their client -- the web-based "bookshelf" of you own games catalog is simple elegance, and really makes it look/feel like a home collection.

I'll go ahead and add in these today too, although I know there's no time to play them. :)

Christ, I haven't played Redguard in years. If you've never played it before it's definitely worth giving a go, plus you get Arena and Daggerfall free. Surprised that's not mentioned in the article actually.

Sweet, hopefully it encourages more and more companies to do this, and hopefully from there its starts to be shown that no DRM is more profitable than having it and then everyone wins.
