Cool Zelda 2DS Looks Like Link's Second-Most-Famous Item
Just don't let a Like-Like eat it.
A new Nintendo 2DS design is coming just for Legend of Zelda fans. The (deep breath) New Nintendo 2DS XL Hylian Shield Edition is designed to look like Link's iconic piece of equipment, complete with blue finish and Triforce insignia.
The special edition will launch on July 2, exclusively at GameStop, for $160. It will also come pre-loaded with The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. This joins similar special edition 2DS models sporting Pikachu's face and a Pokeball. As a 2DS, the system has the capability to play the full library of 3DS games, albeit without the 3D functionality. The "New 2DS XL" line of systems essentially take the New 3DS XL clam-shell shape and strip out the 3D part.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds was a direct sequel to the Super NES classic A Link to the Past, and garnered critical accolades for its blend of retro gameplay with a less rigid structure. Unlike most Zelda games, it allowed players to take on the dungeons in any order by acquiring the necessary puzzle-solving items from a shop-keep. This formula-breaking experiment paved the way for much more radical changes in Breath of the Wild.
