New Apex Legends Season 7 Character, Horizon, Revealed

Seeing as we're less than a month out from the end of Apex Legends Season 6: Boosted, it's time for Respawn to start hinting at what's coming in Season 7.

Update: Even more challenges assigned to "A Wee Experiment" have been added to Apex Legends alongside the start of Fight or Fright, the battle royale game's annual Halloween-themed event. This time around, Fight or Fright adds Shadow Royale to Apex Legends, as opposed to last year's Shadowfall. Respawn has also made the end date for Season 6: Boosted's battle pass a week earlier, which may mean that Season 7 and Horizon could be closer than we think.

Respawn has begun teasing Apex Legends Season 7, which looks to be starting sometime in mid-November, seeing as the Season 6: Boosted battle pass appears to end on November 10. If we had to wager a guess, we assume Respawn is timing Season 7 to launch with the release of both the Xbox Series X/S and PS5. Regardless, this is the most elaborate setup for a new season that Respawn has ever done--the developer set up a multi-step treasure hunt in order to introduce Season 7's new playable character: Horizon.

If you now boot up the game, you'll be greeted with a message from a mysterious character, who needs your help to test out some tech. Head to the Firing Range and find the screen hooked up to a generator. It's here that the voice will reach out to you again and ask you to run some tests for her.

Exit to the lobby and you'll see some brand-new challenges alongside your allotment of daily, weekly, and Aftermarket limited-time challenges--these new ones are labeled "A Wee Experiment." To prove you're worthy of testing out the mysterious voice's gravity lift, you'll have to deal 10 damage while in midair, get 10 knockdowns, and outlive 120 opponents.

After doing all of that, you'll get a new message to meet back up in Firing Range. Go there and the voice will give you a keycard to access the gravity lifts scattered throughout Kings Canyon and World's Edge. They won't be marked on your map, but brand-new challenges under "A Wee Experiment" hint that you can discover them in Refinery, Skyhook, Airbase, and Repulsor Station. You'll know you've found one if you see a small node on the ground connected to a generator like the one hooked up to the monitor in Firing Range. Swiping the card activates the lift, allowing you to travel vertically upwards several stories.

Once you activate all four gravity lifts, return to the Firing Range and the voice will reveal herself as the newest entrant in the Apex Games: Dr. Mary Somers, aka Horizon.

We still don't know what Horizon's abilities are yet, though datamines point to her being able to use tech to control gravity.

Prior to all this, rumors and datamines pointed to Season 7's new character being Horizon, a legend who can manipulate gravity with her tech. Though it hasn't been confirmed, it's speculated that her tactical ability is Gravity Lift, which matches this latest string of teases. Dataminers propose her passive ability buffs her when she lands from a great height (whether from a fall or jumping off her Gravity Rift) and her ultimate ability creates a temporary black hole that drags all nearby targets towards one spot.

Of course, we won't know for sure what Horizon's abilities are until Season 7 officially begins. Until then, we can really only point to these latest teasers as probable hints to one of the new legend's abilities. Respawn has repeatedly done this in the past--for example, it placed Octane's Launch Pads around Kings Canyon ahead of Season 1, featured Revenant's Death Totem effect in Shadowfall ahead of Season 4, included Loba's Burglar's Best Friend bracelet in a World's Edge vault ahead of Season 5, and called out Rampart's Emplaced Minigun "Sheila" with some graffiti around World's Edge ahead of Season 6.
