Great story and atmosphere. Tired gameplay

I waited for a discounted downloadable version of Alan Wake to be available, and boy am I glad I did. What I thought was going to be my game for the next few weeks, I only played for about 2 hrs. At first, I was thrilled...got drawn in by the story, the characters and atmosphere. But I soon found the game play and enemy encounters to be very repetitive. And no choices on your path. Almost felt like a glorified rail game at times. I was excited to play, because it is developed by the same outfit that made one of my favorite games ever: Max Payne. The funny thing is, there was only one type of sequence in Max Payne I DIDN"T like, and those were the dream sequences, where you had little control or choice in outcomes and you just had to bear it and muddle through. Well, Alan Wake feels like one long Max Payne dream sequence. It's too bad. So much potential with great character, story and location.
