Nathan Drake in the palm of your hand

User Rating: 8.5 | Uncharted: Chizu no Bouken no Hajimari VITA
As a launch title for the new Playstation Vita nothing could have been a more perfect series than Uncharted. Unhcarted Golden Abyss is a great showcase for the power and capabilities of the platform. The game makes good use of the analog controls, touchscreen, rear touch pad, and gyroscope controls. The responsiveness and graphics of the PS Vita makes for an excellent way to play a console experience on the go. In this prequel to Unhcarted Drakes Fortune, Nathan Drake finds himself in the jungles of central America. Arriving in the company of his old friend/colleague Jason Dante, Drake has been hired to sort out the mysteries of some uncovered ancient ruins. But little does he know that mystery, intrigue, romance and betrayal await him. Gameplay mechanics should be familiar to fans of the Uncharted series. The game is a solid mixture of third person gunplay, platforming and puzzle solving. The PS Vita controls allow for multiple options of playstyle and an ease of swapping between one control method or the other. A few new game mechanics are introduced that weren't found in previous Uncharted games: Drake now carries a machete at all times which can be used to access areas otherwise blocked, a camera allows for photography to be incorporated as a puzzle element, and charcoal rubbings add to the collectibles and mystery. The story is both engaging and well told in typical Uncharted fashion. Enemy AI ranges from fairly intelligent to painfully stupid at times, but that isn't really anything new for an Uncharted game. The variety of level variation, weapons and puzzles keep things interesting. All in all this game is a must have for PS Vita owners and fans of the Uncharted series.
