While I did enjoy the gameplay and graphics, there is still some things that needed to be done.
Gameplay: I loved the gameplay. As soon as I started playing I fell in love with it. Most of these type of games have been doing the same thing over and over again, however LotR:conquest takes it to a whole new level. A lot of people would describe the gameplay as a rip off of Battlefront. While I do believe this is true to a certain level I still think that the gameplay way different. Most of the game you get to choose between 4 classes. Mage, Archer, Warrior, or Scout. This next part of the review is going to reveal the different classes and powers. If you wish to be surprised just skip this.
(The Mage is used for healing, dealing magic damage from afar, and shielding others. While this was not my favorite class I still enjoyed throwing lighting at the enemies. Archer takes a sniper type feel. By pressing R2 you can zoom in and look for unsuspecting enemies and take them out with L2. You can also light your arrows on fire, shoot multiple arrows, or shoot a poison arrow, however this requires magic. With the BOX button you can kick enemies that get to close to you. One of the awesome things about being an archer is that you can go inside a Mages shield and kick him in the face putting an end to his shield. The archer is my favorite class however I suggest staying far away from enemies if you plan on using the archer. The warrior is usually everyone's favorite. The Warrior has a series of different attacks. BOX is light slashes from the sword, TRIANGLE is medium blows with your sword, and CIRCLE is one heavy blow to the enemy. By pressing the R1 button you can ignite your sword on fire dealing way more damage and doing different attacks. You can also throw a knife by pressing the R2 button and aiming. Finally there is the Scout. The scout can turn invisible and is good for taking out enemies quickly and quietly. The scout has bombs, knifes, and daggers. I did not play as the scout much but I do not recommend using this class. While he can turn invisible enemies can still find you and take you out, and his attacks seem weak.)
Through out the game you can play as different heroes or villains such as Legalos, Gandolf, and Sauron. First you must complete the first story campaign "War of the Ring" This is where you are the good trying to put a stop to Sauron and destroy the ring. However once you beat this mode you may play "Rise of Sauron" and be able to see exactly what would happen if Sauron were to win. The only things I would change about these campaigns is 1. I would make it WAY longer. It was not long enough at all. If you were to do multiplayer it would take about three hours for one campaign. 2. I would make the story line a little more accurate, but you will read about that later in the review. The multiplayer was amazing. It is pretty much one player with a split screen. Its not easier because its multiplayer either. Great gameplay. 9.4/10
Graphics: Yes. Graphics were amazing. What were you expecting? It is the PS3! Great feel, look, and design. The levels were great and you could interact with everything. The characters looked great. If you are expecting graphics to slow down this game then you are wrong. It will not let you down. 9.0/10
Sound: Well you know that it is going to have the original soundtrack. Its a LotR game. Great songs. Sound effects were good too. Screaming orcs, captains yelling orders, and sounds of swords clashing! The sound effects and music were awesome 8.0/10
Story: Here is where I get pretty angry. The story line was pretty inaccurate from the movies/books. Many different changes were made. However in the end it stays to the basic story line of LooR if you are wondering what it is then go watch the movies. I dont have time to talk about it in this review! 7.8/10
Overall: Great game. If you want some great multiplayer war action this is great however if you are looking to just play by yourself this is for you too. Its a good game but like I said it could have been better and way longer. I strongly suggest renting this first because it is the type of game that only appeals to certain people. Overall this game was pretty good so 8.0/10
