User Rating: 9.5 | Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars SNES
Back in 1995 there was a little buzz starting to work it's way around the magazines. Back then, internet wasn't the media giant it is today so publications like GamePro, EGM, Nintendo Power, etc....all had the info gamers wanted. When Super Mario RPG was announced there was a mixed reaction among gamers. Who was going to do it? Is this just another Mario game by Nintendo to hold over the real fans until the next true Mario platformer comes out? What? Squaresoft is teaming up with Nintendo?!?!?!?!? Awesome!!!!!!! When Super Mario RPG launched it 96', it would change the way many gamers viewed the relationship between Nintendo and an outside company. We have seen many spin-offs in the Paper Mario series(great series BTW) but it never matched the greatness that this game attained. Playing through the game you will develop friendships with the most unlikely of people(Possible Spoiler) and the story keeps you captivated from start to finish. Now there's nothing I can say that has not already been said about this game. If you were lucky to play it back then on SNES, you knew you had something special after playing your first battle. I mean timed hits, awesome! So as I re-visit places like Bandit Way, Mario's Pad and the Mushroom Kingdom, I can't help but go back to a simpler time when all I had to do was eat, sleep, go to school, and recover stars.
