The first Mario RPG ever made is also the best.

Let me make one thing clear. No, i haven't beaten this game, I only gotten up to getting the fourth star so far. But I think its high time to tell you how awesome this SNES classic really is.

Super Mario RPG is, to my knowledge, one of the last SNES classics. It came out in 1996. Kind of funny that this game came out in May 13, while the N64 came out a month later in Japan. But looking at it, Mario RPG is kind of a closure of the SNES era. A Swan Song, if you'd call it.

The game begins with Mario entering Bowser's Castle to rescue Princess Toadstool (or Peach). During the battle, a giant sword crashes into the castle, sending all of them flying in different directions, as well as scattering seven star fragments, and its up to Mario to save the day.

The graphics, for 1996, and SNES, were, and still are...AWESOME! It just goes to shows that Nintendo did had something that Genesis didn't have. Blast Processing, Whats that?!

Now the gameplay is your basic turn based battle system, similar to the old Final Fantasy games. But in Mario RPG, you also have timed button presses during an attack, and special moves. The game also controls on a one button system, something that Fable failed to accomplish. OOOOOooooooooo!

And also, one thing i also love in any videogame, is the soundtrack. Mario RPG's music is catchy, nostalgic, and all around superb to listen to, seriously. The soundtrack is always one thing that gets bonus points for me.

Another thing that Mario RPG gets bonus points for is that the game is filled with humor, and plenty of clever moments. There's one part in the game where if your go behind a certain curtain. Mario turns into 8-bIt. Clever stuff like that is very humorous, and awesome.

So I pretty much enjoy this game, but like any other game its not perfect.

For starters, The view that the game is angled at can be frustrating when you're jumping on platforms.

Also, later on in the game, the enemies can drop massive HP off of you. Making the balance, kinda questionable. But if you level-up early in the game. It shouldn't be that much of a problem.

The very first Mario RPG ever made is also the best. The other Mario RPG games like Paper Mario, and Mario & Luigi, are excellent games as well. But this classic game started it all. When will they make Mario RPG 2? I know Paper Mario was meant to be that sequel. But still. But nevermind, the game is 800 wii-points on Wii-Shop Channel. So give your Wii something to do and pick this up...And while your at it. Get yourself a classical controller.
