This game surprisingly held up very well over time. It is excellently emulated on the Virtual Console. The graphics look good and the sound is crisp. All of the features that made this game fun to play are still here. One thing I miss from the original Sonic that I got very used to in the later games was the ability to press the down button and spin. This makes the game a little tougher as you cannot spin through enemies. The only gripe I have with this game is how ridiculously hard it gets. There's no save feature or password feature which makes this one incredibly tough game to beat even though it's relatively short. The game is a little bit pricey but is still fun to play.
